Dr. U. N. Mellette celebrated his 83rd day February 22. He has just retired from the practice of pharmacy and his interest in the drug business at Holdenville, Okla., after 60 years' continuous service. Dr. Mellette is now enjoying a vavation at Bellingham, Wash., and says, "It is doubtful if I shall return to business again." He certainly deserves an extended vacation.

UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON COLLEGE

OF PHARMACY.

An arrangement has been perfected by which the Bureau of Plant Industry of the United States Government will co-operate with the College of Pharmacy in the cultivation of drug plants. About three-fourths of an acre of the area of the Garden of Medicinal Plants on the university campus has been set aside for the use of the Bureau. Upon this will be cultivated a number of plants which is desired to test out under the conditions prevailing in This western Washington. comes as a recognition of the work already done in our garden.

Prof. Chas. W. Johnson

A recent addition to the faculty of the College of Pharmacy is Dr. Fred H. Heath, who fills the place as instructor in chemistry recently made vacant by the departure of Dr. J. E. Bell. Dr. Heath received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at Yale University. For a time he was an instructor in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and for several years has filled a similar position in the University of North Dakota. Dr. Heath will have charge of the work in general chemistry, qualitative analysis and organic chemistry in the College of Pharmacy.

Mr. Cornelius Osseward, who is president of the Washington Board of Pharmacy and lecturer on Commercial Pharmacy in the College of Pharmacy, has recently suffered a double affliction in the loss by death of Mrs. Osseward, and of his youngest son, Peter. Mr. Osseward has the deep sympathy of his many friends in his bereavement.

The following new students entered the College of Pharmacy at the beginning of the second semester: Geraldine Gilbert, Walter Cantril, Harold Hubbard, Richard Lee, M. Foster Randles, L. A. Taber, and Saul Shain.
