STEPHENS' IMPROVEMENTS IN INK

AND WRITING FLUIDS.

The annoyance of writing with Inks which would not flow from the steel pen must be in the recollection of many persons.

THE BLUE-BLACK WRITING FLUID

Was the first successful attempt to remedy this inconvenience. Being a perfect solution of Colour, and not a suspension by means of Gum, it flows from the Pen and combines with the Paper in such a manner as to insure ease and facility of writing, with a perfect colour and permanence.

Out of numerous flattering testimonials received by the Proprietor, the following is respectfully, and by permission, submitted to Public notice :

Brunswick Works, near Birmingham. SIR,-There is an impression generally existing that your admirable Ink is not adapted for the copying press (I mean your Blue Black). Allow me to remark, that it would be a material benefit to yourself and the Public, to make it generally known that the Ink in question is better adapted for the press than any other, inasmuch as it retains its colour, and is not apt to assume that brown appearance that most of the ordinary Copying Inks do after a short lapse of time. I have used your Ink for the last eight years, and copy all letters or memoranda of importance, and have never yet found anything to equal it as a COPYING INK (of its other superior qualities I need not speak). I inclose a press copy of this as a specimen. All parties to whom I have recommended your Ink for copying have exclusively adopted it.. To Mr. Stephens, I am, Sir, yours respectfully, The following was copied from a New York paper after the great fire:To W. W. ROSE, Esq., NEW YORK.

G. STEVENS.

September 6, .845. DEAR SIR,-In answer to your note, we would state that the only use we made of Blue Ink in our books was to place a number against the checks in our Check Book. When this book was first recovered from the ruins, the numbers had entirely disappeared, but by exposing the book to the air, the writing became legible. The Ink we used was NOT Stephens' Blue Writing Fluid, but was a common article, and was put up in a glass bottle. In our safe, and exposed to the same heat, we had some Invoices which had the Deputy Collector's signature on them, written with Stephens' Blue Writing Fluid, which signatures were as distinct and legible when taken from the safe as they were before the fire.

Your obedient Servants,
CROCKER & WARREN.

Red, Blue, and Black Inks, also superior Black Copying Inks, Liquid Drawing Inks, as a substitute for Indian Ink, and Coloured inks of various sorts, are manufactured in exact Chemical Proportions. Also Dyes for Wood, as a substitute for Paint; and the

Night Lights expressly for use in hot climates:-

PRICE'S PATENT EXPORT NIGHT LIGHTS;
PRICE'S PATENT EXPORT LAMP NIGHT LIGHTS;

the former having a paper casing in which they burn; the latter burning in glasses.

The Company do not recommend the exportation to hot climates of any of the descriptions of Night Lights manufactured by them for the home trade, such as Patent Albert Night Lights, Child's Night Lights, and Belmont Night Lights, as when burning in a hot climate too much of their material becomes melted to allow of the light being a good one.

Candles and Night Lights for Shipment to the West Indies are usually packed in new Rum puncheons, containing 42 dozen lbs. For other parts small cases are used, containing 24 or 25 lbs.
