are designated by the Treasury Department. The statements required are a "Statement of financial condition," "Statement of income and expense," "Statement of source and application of funds," and "Statement of long-range commitments and contingencies.' This regulation provides a framework for ultimately obtaining the data necessary to disclose as complete as may be desirable and practical, the assets and liabilities of the entire Government.

This Treasury circular and the supplement No. 1 thereto which was issued to furnish the data requested by the Committee on Government Operations and the passage of Public Law 863 will furnish the basis for reporting the assets of the United States Government on a consistent basis and from figures anchored into accounts maintained in accordance with the principles and standards prescribed by the General Accounting Office. The work of the Committee on Government Operations in securing reporting on all assets of the Government has furnished another impetus in improving the quality of the records being maintained and the reports being rendered by various agencies of the Government.
