Mr. Lewis stated, That he next proposed to put in Evidence the Inscription on a Monument erected in Middle Claydon Church to the Memory of Sir Edmund Verney, Knight Marshal, No. 11. in the Pedigree. Then the Witness was further asked : Do you produce the original Inscription on a Monument in Middle Claydon Church to the Memory of Sir Edmund Verney? I do. Have you compared it with the Original? I have. Is it a correct Copy? It is. Have the goodness to read it? Rev. T. Wright. Also to the perpetual Honour and Memory of that most excellent and incomparable Person Dame Mary, sole Daughter & Heire of John Blacknall of Abingdon in the County of Berks, Esq., and Wife of S Raphe Verney (eldest Son of the said S Edmond & Dame Margarett), by whom she had Three Sonnes and Three Daughters, whereof only Edmund and John are living. She deceased at Blois, in France, on the 10th Day of May 1650, being about the Age of 34 Years, and was here interred the 19th of November Rev. T. Wright. No. 21. No. 22. following, where her said Husband (at whose "S Raphe Verney, Kt & Baronett, dyed 24 Sep' 1696, aged 84. "John Verney Viscount Fermanagh, Baron Verney of Belturbet in Ireland, & Bart, ob. June 23, Ann. Dom. 1717, Æt. 76." Mr. Lewis stated, That he next proposed to put in Evidence an Inscription on a Tablet to the Memory of Elizabeth, the First Wife of John Verney, No. 18. in the Pedigree. Then the Witness was further asked: Do you produce an examined Copy of an Inscription to the Memory of Elizabeth, the First Wife of Sir John Verney? "Erected to the Memory of his most beloved & deserving Wife." Mr. Lewis stated, That he proposed next to put in an Inscription to the Memory of his Second Wife. Then the Witness was further asked : Have you an examined Copy of the Inscription on a Tablet in Middle Claydon Church to the Memory of Mary, the Second Wife of Sir John Verney? I have. The same was read as follows: Mary, the Second Wife of S' John Verney, Barronett, one of the Daughters of the Honourable Sir Francis Lawley of St Powell in Shropshire, Baronett, Master of His Majesties Jewel Office. She had One Son, named John Verney, who died within the Year, and lyeth with her in the Vault within the Chancell. She departed this Life the XXIV. Day of August MDCXCIV., aged XXXIII. Years." Mr. Lewis stated, That he proposed next to put in an Inscription on a Brass Plate in the Wall of Middle Claydon Church to the Memory of John Verney, Second Son of John Verney, Baron of Belturbet, No. 23. in the Pedigree. Then Then the Witness was further asked : Have you an examined Copy from the Inscription on a Brass Plate in Middle Claydon Church to the Memory of John Verney? I have. Is it a correct Copy? It is; I have compared it with the Original. The same was read as follows: "In Memory of John Verney, who dyed the 20th of May 1694, Second Son of John Verney La Viscount Fermanagh, of the Kingdom of Ireland, Baron Verney of Belturbet, & Baronet, who was the surviving Son & Heir of Sr Ralph Verney, Kt & Baronett; whose Father was Sir Edmund Verney, K & Knight Marshall, Standard Bearer to King Charles y First, Son of another St Edmond Verney, Kt, who was the Son of S Ralph Verney, Kt, Son of another S Ralph Verney, Kt, Son of Sir John Verney, Kt & B', the Son of S Ralph Verney, Kt, Son of Ralph Verney Esq', Son of Edmund Verney Esq, Son of John Verney Esq." 'Mr. Lewis stated, That he proposed next to put in an Inscription on a Tablet erected in Middle Claydon Church to the Memory of the Right Honourable Mary Verney, Baroness Fermanagh, No. 21. in the Pedigree. Then the Witness was further asked : Is that an examined Copy of the Inscription on the Tablet? Have you compared it with the Original? I have; it is correct. The Honble John Verney, eldest Son of Viscount Fermanagh, & Mary, Daughter of Josias Nicholson, Esq', who married secondly Richard Calvert, Esq', She was the last of the noble Family of Verney, to her maternal Sister Catherine, the Wife of the Revd Robert Wright, and bear the Arms of VERNEY." Rev. T. Wright. No. 23. No. 24. Rev. T. Wright. "In the same Vault are the Remains who died the 21st Day of April 1820, Aged 74 Years; who died the 9th Day of January 1827, Aged 82 Years.” Sir Harris Nicolas stated, That they had examined the only Witness who was detained in Town. The Counsel were informed, That at the next Sitting the Committee desired to have the Point argued by the Attorney General, the junior Counsel for the Claimant being first heard, assuming for the present the Case to have been proved, and that the Witnesses need not attend till further Order. Sir Harris Nicolas having requested to be informed whether he should not have the Privilege of Reply, was informed, That the Committee would not decide that Point in the Absence of the Attorney General. The Witness was directed to withdraw. The Counsel were directed to withdraw.
