CHAPMAN AND HALL'S SERIES

OF

ORIGINAL WORKS OF FICTION, BIOGRAPHY, AND GENERAL LITERATURE.

ENLARGED PLAN.

THIS series has been hitherto restricted to Novels and Biography. Its plan is now enlarged, so as to include other kinds of literature.

The principle of the undertaking is to charge for Works of the first Class less than one-half the cost of an equal amount of matter in the ordinary system of publication; and it now comprises books of Travel and of General Literature, as well as Biography and Fiction.

The separate publication of Parts having been found inconvenient to purchasers, each Work, whether in one or two volumes, is now published complete in the first instance. The number of Publications in the year will average not less than a Volume on the first of every alternate Month.

The simultaneous appearance of two Novels, by a most deservedly popular writer (The Author of "Two OLD MEN'S TALES"), one of which, in compliance with the existing system, is charged £1. 11s. 6d. while the other, in its place in the MONTHLY SERIES, is sold in volumes for 18s., may be referred to as a practical illustration of the scheme, which is now enlarged; of which the efficiency is in all respects increased; and in which Works of the most distinguished Writers will continue to be presented, with no sacrifice of typographical excellence, at one-half the sum of the customary modes of publication.
