[REQUESTING THE SECRETARY OF WAR TO REMODEL THE PRESENT MILITARY DEPARTMENTS.] Whereas, The present military departments of the United States, in which Colorado is located, were established prior to the construction of the present system of railroads; and Whereas, The Territories of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and New Mexico and the State of Colorado, are so situated with reference to each other that troops can be moved from some central point in Colorado to all parts of the district above mentioned to better advantage than from the present headquarters of the several military departments; therefore Resolved, by this House, the Senate concurring, That the honorable secretary of war be requested to so remodel the present military departments as to make a mountain military department, composed of the Territories and State mentioned above, with headquarters thereof at or near the city of Denver, in this State.
