GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS. If the rules are not attended to, the paper will be cancelled. You are permitted to answer questions from the Elementary paper, or from the Advanced paper, or from the Honours paper, but you must confine yourself to one of them. By well considering the question he is about to attempt, the candidate will be able to get all his work, without any crowding or confusion, on the one sheet of drawing-paper given out to him, for he must understand that no second sheet will be allowed him. The constructions may be left in pencil, provided they are distinct and neat. They must be strictly geometrical and not the result of calculation or trial. The absence of those lines which would be essential to a correct solution will show that the figure is worthless, however correct the result may appear. Lines parallel or perpendicular to others may be drawn mechanically without showing any construction. Lines may be bisected by trial. A single accent (') signifies feet; a double accent (") inches. In all cases the number of the question must be placed before the answer on the worked paper. Those questions that have an asterisk (*) prefixed, have accompanying diagrams. The examination in this subject lasts for four hours. First Stage or Elementary Examination.
