LIBER STUDIORU M. By J. M. W. TURNER, R.A. The re-issue of this highly-prized and most valuable Work, after the original Drawings and Etchings of the late famous painter, J. M. Turner, will contain Seventy small folio Plates, and will be published in Fourteen Parts, each containing Five Plates, price 10s. 6d. each Part. Part. I. is now ready. Of the merits of this beautiful Work it is unnecessary to speak, for they are known to every lover of art. Copies of the former edition seldom occurred for sale, and when they did, they have brought high prices; indeed, recently a copy was sold by public auction for nearly One Hundred Pounds. An acceptable service has, therefore, been rendered to Art by the present edition, which is executed in the highest style of excellence, in perfect fac-simile of the original etchings by Mr. Turner. The style is that of the "Liber Veritatis" of Claude, engraved by Earlom. Now Publishing in Monthly Parts, each containing Five Plates, in a Wrapper. ARCHITECTURAL SKETCHES FROM THE CONTINENT, A SERIES OF VIEWS AND DETAILS FROM FRANCE, ITALY, AND GERMANY. BY RICHARD NORMAN SHAW, ARCHITECT. AMONG the numerous works which have been published in England exemplifying the Architecture of the Middle Ages, comparatively few have been devoted to the fine specimens which are to be found thickly scattered over the Continent. While every corner of the United Kingdom has been ransacked for fresh examples, and nearly every building of note has been more or less illustrated, many of the most beautiful works in France, Italy, and Germany remain entirely untouched, and very little known. This is, perhaps, chiefly remarkable in the case of France, the country of all others the most accessible, and undoubtedly the most richly stored with the triumphs of Mediæval Genius. This work can hardly pretend to be a detailed illustration of Continental Architecture. It simply aims at bringing into notice many views and details hitherto unknown, or so scattered among larger books as to be difficult of reference to inquirers. The Author hopes it may be the means of inspiring such of his countrymen as have not yet visited these scenes with a higher appreciation of the genius which has created works whose beauty is so endless in its variety. The work, to be issued Monthly, will consist of Twenty Parts; each Part, price 3s. 6d., to contain Five Plates. When completed, it will form one Volume of One Hundred Plates, with Title-page, Index, &c. Price £3. 10s. in Parts, or £3. 13s. 6d. in appropriate binding. Messrs. DAY AND SON have undertaken its publication, and the reputation which they enjoy is a sufficient guarantee that it will receive ample justice at their hands. The following Testimonial in favour of the Work has been received by the Author. "It is with much pleasure that we have examined the first Number of a new Work on the Medieval Architecture of the Continent, by Mr. R. N. Shaw. "The Drawings from which this Work is to be executed have been prepared by Mr. Shaw, during a period of two years, whilst employed as Travelling Student to the Royal Academy; and, from a careful examination of his Sketches of his return, we have no hesitation in stating that the Work cannot fail to be highly interesting, not merely to the Architect, but to Artists and all taking any interest in the works of the Middle Ages. "As the Plates are to be entirely Lithographed by Mr. Shaw, they will naturally retain all the character and spirit of the original Sketches. (Signed) "C. L. EASTLAKE, P.R.A. P. HARDWICK, R.A."
