1. Describe the late severe frost.

1. Account for the great increase of the Manufactures of Great Britain since 1789; and explain why hostilities with France did not check them.

2. Name the territories acquired by us between 1789 and 1815, and the nations at whose expense they were gained.

3. State the probable causes of our failure by land in the war with the French Republic, and of our success in that with Napoleon I.

4. What naval victories were gained by Great Britain between 1789 and 1815, and under what circumstances?

5. Describe the proceedings of Napoleon in reference to Spain and Portugal, which led to the Peninsular War; and sketch the course of the

war.

6. Write lives of Pitt the Younger and Fox; and compare those two statesmen.

7. Explain the terms Protection, Repeal of the Union, Parliamentary Reform, Catholic Emancipation, as used in the history of this period. Who were the leaders in the agitation for and against these measures, and what were the results?

8. State the causes and results of the war between Great Britain and the United States (begun in 1812), Lord Exmouth's Expedition to Algiers, and the Revolt in Canada; and mention the part taken by Great Britain in the Greek Revolution.

9. Give accounts of Mr. Perceval, Mr. Canning, the late Sir Robert Peel, Lord Nelson, Earl of Dundonald.

10. Enumerate wars waged by Great Britain in Asia and Africa since 1815; and state briefly their causes and results.
