2. What is the difference between History and Fiction?

3. What effect, if any, have climate and the other physical circumstances of a country on the national character?

1. Write a life of Lord Nelson.

2. Write a life of Mr. Fox, or of Mr. Canning. (Not of both.)

3. Name, in order of time, but without any account, the Prime Minister and chief members of every Cabinet since the resignation of Mr. Pitt in 1801.

4. Enumerate, in order of time (naming the Governor-General, or the leader of the expedition, but without any description of the events), our territorial acquisitions, in any part of the world, during the present century.

5. In what respects, and from what causes, has the internal condition of the United Kingdom improved during the present century?

6. Which four or five men would you select as together representing the character of the period of English history since 1789? Give reasons for your choice.

7. Describe very shortly the plots and riots which have taken place in Great Britain and Ireland since 1789.

8. Describe very shortly the principal grounds of contention between the Liberal and Conservative Parties during the present century.

1. Divide 787. 2s. 11d. by 62, and 357 cwt. 3 qrs. by 106.

2. Reduce 4 lbs. 11 oz. 16 dwts. 22 grains to grains, and 24 acres 2 roods 14 poles 5 yards 4 feet 56 inches to inches.

3. Determine the price of 5 cwt. 3 qrs. 11 lbs. at 5l. 3s. 114d. per cwt.

4. If 2090 lbs. of beef serve 88 men for 19 days, how many days will 1991 lbs. serve 57 men?

5. Subtract 3++11 from 5+ + 2; and divide the result by 59.

6. Convert and 22 into decimal fractions; and divide the second result by the first.

7. Find the fraction of a pound which is equivalent to the excess of of a guinea above the sum of of a shilling and of 7s. 6d.

8. Express 3s. 114d. as the decimal of a guinea; and find the value of 476565 of a mile.

9. Find the present worth of 1217. 15s., due 5 months hence, at 3 per cent. simple interest.
