3. What great changes have been effected, since 1789, in the laws relating to religious disabilities, the maintenance of the poor, and punishments for crimes?

4. Mention circumstances explanatory of the successes achieved by Nelson at the Nile and Trafalgar, and by Wellington in Spain.

5. Enumerate the territories gained by Great Britain in India, while Lords Wellesley, Hardinge, and Dalhousie were the Governors-General; and refer shortly to the circumstances which led to each annexation.

6. Describe shortly the causes and course of the Crimean War.

7. Give a short account of the reign of Napoleon I, and describe his character.

8. Mention the circumstances connected with the accession and dethronement of Louis Philippe; and enumerate the chief events in his reign.

9. State the political divisions of Italy, in 1789, at the end of 1815, and in 1865.

10. Give some account of the internal dissensions in Spain, Portugal, and the Turkish Empire, since

1815.

3. Name the capitals of Afghanistan, Persia, Peru, Egypt, Abyssinia, New South Wales, the Netherlands, Hungary, Wurtemberg.

4. Explain, by reference to the contiguous districts, or in any other way, the situation of Silesia, Herzegovina, Liberia, Illinois, Yemen, Utah, Bhootan.

5. Name six of the chief rivers on the Asiatic Continent, the state or states through which each flows, the region in which it rises, and the sea or river into which it falls.

6. Which are the principal mineral districts on the European Continent, and the minerals or mineral abounding most in each?

7. What are the chief articles of the trade between Great Britain and the East and West Indies?

8. Mention the chief products of Ireland; and describe generally the situation of its principal ports. 9. Do the same for Scotland.

10. What are the commercial advantages anticipated, whether correctly or erroneously, from the Suez Canal?
