LET youthful voices join

To praise the Saviour's love,
With angels who in glory shine,
And saints who dwell above.
Let all that hear his name,
Unite their gladsome lays,
And through the world aloud proclaim
The great Redeemer's praise.
Praises on Him bestow,

Who once was rich and great,
But came to dwell with men below
In mean and humble state.

To Him who conquered death,
And plucked the sting away,

Let old and young with joyful breath
Their lasting worship pay.

ET us sing with one accord,

Praise to Jesus Christ our Lord;

He is worthy whom we praise,
Hearts and voices let us raise!
He hath made us by his power,
He hath kept us to this hour,
He redeemed us from the grave,
He who died now lives to save.
What he bids us, let us do;
Where he leads us, let us go;

As he loves us, let us love
Man below, and God above.

ARK! what mean those holy voices, Sweetly sounding through the skies? Lo! the angelic host rejoices;

Heavenly hallelujahs rise.

Listen to the wondrous story,

[ocr errors]

Which they chant in hymns of joy :
Glory in the highest, glory!
Glory be to God most high!
"Peace on earth and sin forgiven,

Reaching far as man is found:
Christ is born, the Lord from heaven;
Louder still our harps shall sound.
"Hasten, mortals, to adore him,
Learn his name, his praises sing;
Till in heaven ye bow before him,
Jesus, Prophet, Priest, and King."

GLORY to God, and peace on earth,

Good will to man is shown;

Let heavenly joy at Jesus' birth
Be through the nations known.
Glory to God for love so mild;
How wonderful the plan,
For Jesus once became a child,
To save rebellious man!

Glory to God! let all the earth
Join in the heavenly song;
And praise him for the Saviour's birth
In every land and tongue.

HEPHERDS keeping watch by night S Saw around a glorious light;

Heard an angel's voice proclaim, "Christ is born in Bethlehem!

Soon by many a heavenly tongue,
Glory be to God was sung,
"Peace on earth, good will to men,"
Christ is born in Bethlehem!
Oh! what condescending love,
Thus to leave his throne above;
Thus to bear our guilt and shame,
And be born in Bethlehem!
Lord! accept our warmest praise;
Make us thine in childhood's days;
And our hearts with love inflame
For thy birth in Bethlehem.

Jonce became a child like me;
ESUS CHRIST, my Lord and Saviour,

O that, in my whole behaviour,
He my pattern still might be!
my nature is unholy,

All

Pride and passion dwell within ;

But the Lord was meek and lowly,
And was never known to sin.
I am often vainly trying

Some new pleasure to possess,
He was always self-denying,
Patient in his worst distress.

Lord, though now thou art in glory,
I have thine example still,
I can read thy sacred story,
And obey thy holy will.

Help me, by thy word, to measure
Every deed and every thought,
Thinking it my greatest pleasure
All to do that thou hast taught.

ET earth rejoice, the Saviour comes !
The Saviour promised long!

Let every heart prepare a throne,
And every voice a song.

He comes! the captive to release,
The wanderer to restore,

The sorrowing one to bless with peace
And joy for evermore.

He comes from every clouded mind
The mist to clear away;

He comes! the broken heart to bind,
The trembling heart to stay.

WEET was the gospel's joyful sound,
Rich were the tones of love and grace,
That fell on those who gathered round
To listen to the "Prince of Peace."
From heaven he came, of heaven he spoke,
To heaven he led his followers' way;
Dark clouds of gloomy night he broke,
Unveiling an immortal day.

"Come, wanderers, to my Father's home,
Come, all ye weary ones, and rest!"
Yes! gracious Teacher, we will come,
Obey Thee, love Thee, and be blest.

W Each sinking in its sheltered nest,

birds have left the air,

And wandering beasts have sought their lair,
And laid them down to welcome rest;
Why lingers still with weary tread
The Son of man, the Saviour kind?
Why on his lone, unsheltered head,
Falls the chill night-damp of the wind?
Why seeks he not a home of rest?
Why seeks he not a pillowed bed?
Beasts have their dens, the bird its nest,
He hath not where to lay his head.
It was the lot he freely chose,
To bless, to save, the human race;
