In that bright world are mansions fair,
And all will soon be gathered there.

5.5.5.11.

Cand lift our glad voice,

OME, let us rejoice,

Midst sorrow and care;

The Saviour delights for our help to appear.

When dangers are near,

To fill us with fear,

On Him we depend

[tend.

For blessings which daily our pathway at

When low at his feet
His grace we entreat,
He hears every plea,

And welcomes whoever shall unto Him flee.

GOD of Bethel, by whose hand
Thy people still are fed;

Who through this weary pilgrimage
Hast all thy servants led.

Through each perplexing path of life
Our wandering footsteps guide,
Give us each day our daily bread,
And raiment fit provide.

Oh! spread thy covering wings around
Till all our wanderings cease,

And at our Father's loved abode

Our souls arrive in

peace.

139. 6. 8.

JESUS, transporting sound!
joy of earth and heaven;

No other help is found,

No other name is given,
By which we can salvation have,
But Jesus came the world to save.

His name the sinner hears,
And is from sin set free;
"Tis music in his ears,

"Tis life and victory;

New songs do now his lips employ,
And fill his grateful heart with joy.

O unexampled love!

O all redeeming grace!

How swiftly dost thou move
To save a fallen race!

How can I make thy mercy known,

Or show the world what Thou hast done?

O for a trumpet voice,
On all the world to call,
To bid their hearts rejoice
In Him who died for all.
For all my Lord was crucified;
For all, for all, my Saviour died.

140. THE

IMMORTALITY.

L.M.

HE time is short, soon all that live
Must hence depart their God to meet;
And each a strict account must give
At Jesus' solemn judgment-seat.
The time is short, but who can tell
How short his time below may be?
To-day on earth his soul may dwell,
To-morrow in eternity.

Ten thousand ages shall be told,
Ten thousand thousands pass away;
And all will take their changeless mould
From this short time, this fleeting day.
The time is short, soon time shall cease,
Eternity be ushered in ;

And death shall die, and joy and peace
O'er the new earth benignant reign.

THE

C. M.

HE sun that rules the day shall fade,
The stars shall pass away,

And I that am immortal made,

Shall witness their decay.

Yes! I shall live when they are dead,
Though now so bright they shine.
When earth and all it holds have fled,
Eternity is mine.

For I can never, never die,
While God himself remains;
But either live in light on high,
Or dwell where darkness reigns.

ASAD and sinful world is this.

Although it is so fair;

But heaven is perfect joy and bliss,
For God himself is there.

Here all our pleasures soon are past,
Our brightest joys decay;
But pleasures there for ever last,
And cannot fade away.

Here sins and sorrows we deplore.

With anxious cares distressed;
But there the mourners weep no more,
And there the weary rest.

Our dearest friends when death shall call
At once from earth depart;

But there we hope to meet them all,

And never, never part.

ROUND the throne of God in heaven,
Thousands of children stand:

Children whose sins are all forgiven,

A holy, happy band;

Singing glory, glory, glory.

What brought them to that world above,
That heaven so bright and fair,
Where all is peace and joy and love-
How came those children there?

Singing, &c.

It is because the Son of God
Has saved them by his might,
Has washed them in his precious blood,
And clothed them all in white.

Singing, &c. On earth they sought the Saviour's grace, On earth they loved his name;

So now they see his blessed face,

And stand before the Lamb. Singing, &c.

[blocks in formation]

WE sing of the realms of the blest,

That kingdom so bright and so fair;
And oft are its glories confessed,
But what will it be to be there?

We speak of its freedom from sin,
From sorrow, temptation, and care;
From trials without and within,
But what must it be to be there?
We speak of its service of love,
The robes which the glorified wear,
The church of the first-born above,
But what must it be to be there?
O then, Lord, midst pleasure or woe,
For heaven our spirits prepare;
