7.6.

ND shall we dwell together,
As children dwell at home,
And every one be happy,
And not a sorrow come?
Dark people from the islands,
Far scattered o'er the sea;
Pale men from icy deserts
Too cold for flower or tree?
Yes, all shall dwell together,
Who once were far apart-
All who have served the Saviour
With hand and tongue and heart:
Yes, all shall dwell together,
As children dwell at home,
And then we shall be happy,
God's kingdom will be come.

7.7.6.

ET the gospel's glorious sound,
Spread among the nations round,

Until our race is free.

Then shall loud hosannas,

Sweet and glad hosannas,

Then shall loud hosannas

Roll round the world from sea to sea.

Let the love of Christ be known,

Young and old allegiance own,
And earth shall happy be.

Then, &c.

O'er the earth thy sceptre sway,
Men thy truth will then obey,
The slave will then be free.

Then, &c.

Then shall war for ever cease;
Heathen homes, be homes of peace,

Christ shall the victor be. Then, &c.
Then how sweet the song shall rise,
To thy throne above the skies,
And sin no more shall be.

Then, &c.

SPECIAL OCCASIONS.

161. WHAT have

L. M.

we done, since last

we met, To sing the Saviour's praises thus ?

Have we come nigh to Jesus yet,
And loved Him for his love to us?

Has he been calling from the skies,
While we refused his voice to hear?
Have we been foolish ones or wise?
What have we done throughout this year?
With open arms the Saviour stands,
A gentle, loving smile he wears;
Pardon and peace are in his hands,
And still the fruitless plant he spares.
O fill our hearts with holy fear,
At thoughts so solemn, Lord, as these;
And spare us yet another year,

And make us good and fruitful trees.

[blocks in formation]

THEN, Lord, our former years
Through all their course we trace,

W

How large the sum appears
Of mercy and of grace!

But still we cling around
The idols of our love,
And all our joys are found
Afar from things above.
Then teach us, Lord, to feel
How large a debt we owe ;
And give us ardent zeal
To serve Thee here below.
O! let thy spirit warm
Our hearts with love divine;
Break, break each earthly charm,
And make us wholly thine.

SWI

C. M.

WIFT as the winged arrow flies
My time is hastening on,

Quick as the lightning from the skies

My wasting moments run.

My follies past, O Lord, forgive,
My every sin subdue,

And teach me henceforth how to live,
With Jesus still my view.

Thanks be to thine unbounded grace,
That in my early youth,

I have been taught to seek thy face
And know the way of truth.

O let thy Spirit lead me still
Along the happy road,

And teach me how to do thy will,
My Father and my God.

;

Another year of life is past,
My heart to Thee incline
If many years my life should last,
May it be wholly thine.

EE! another year is gone!
Quickly has the season past;

This we enter now upon,
Will to many prove their last.
Mercy hitherto has spared,
But have mercies been improved?
Let each ask, Am I prepared,
Should I be this year removed?
Some, we now no longer see,
Who their mortal race have run,
Seemed as fair for life as we
When the former year begun.

While we pray, and while we hear,
Help us, Lord, each one to think,
Vast eternity is near,

I am standing on the brink.

6's.

EARS pass and are no more,
Their seasons rolling by,

.

Like waves upon the shore,
That rise and fall and die.
But every year contains
A record of its own;
There every deed remains,
And will at last be known.
God's never-failing grace
And love they all record;
But sinful are our ways,
Ungrateful to our Lord.
Oh, now to start afresh,
Ón this new year to-day;
To keep the end in view,
And run the heavenly way,

[blocks in formation]

H To this assembled throng,

OW happy are these pleasant days,

When here we meet our hearts to raise,
In one united song.

But light and shade, and spring and fall,
Exchanged a few times more,
And death shall overtake us all,
Our graves be covered o'er.

But soon the trumpet's solemn sound
Shall burst upon the ear,
