Joining all in earnest prayer,
Seeking mercy for him there.
O receive him, gracious Lord,
Still instruct him in thy word,
Guide him ever in thy ways,
Keep him, bless him all his days.
Flesh is frail-be ever nigh,
Help and aid him from on high,
Never may he go astray,
Nor forsake the narrow way.
Trials many he will meet,
May they bring him to thy feet,
There upon thy name to call,
Who alone canst bless them all.
Should he soon be called to die,
May he find the Saviour nigh,
And in Him obtaining peace,
Rise, where joy shall never cease.

LISTEN to our fervent prayer!

Blest Saviour, hear us when we call! Vouchsafe for this our friend to care, That he may never, never fall. Still may he serve Thee every day, And fear thy name, and trust thy grace; O never may he cease to pray,

Or slight the hallowed secret place.

Be Thou his loving, faithful friend,

Thy name his strength, thy word his stay;

O ever guide him to the end,

And bless and keep him night and day.
Thus cared for, guided, Lord, by Thee,
His days shall always pass in peace,
And when they end, his home shall be
Where joy and gladness still increase.

NOTHER has been called away,
Another from our side;

O let us heed the call to-day,
For young as we he died!

Not long ago he filled his place,

And sat beside us here;

And we shall soon have run our race,
Then ought we not to fear?

To Thee, O Lord, to Thee we cry,
Thy mercy is our plea ;
Prepare us by thy grace to die,
At perfect peace with Thee.

H, why those tears, why should we weep,
Behold what comfort God has given;

The righteous dead in Jesus sleep,.
Their ransomed spirits are in heaven.
Rejoice we rather for our friend,
That he has gained the promised rest,
Where joy and gladness never end,
And every soul is fully blest.

His toil is o'er, his work is done,
His latest tear is wiped away,
His conflict hushed, his race is run,
His spirit reigns in endless day.
If weep we must, then let it be
The tear of fervent, earnest prayer,
That we, throughout eternity,
His present blessedness may share.

Wer hear that well-known voice,
E see no more that well-known face,

That often in this hallowed place
Made every heart rejoice.

Our friend has joined the ransomed throng,
Has soared above the sky,
To sing the glad, the endless song
That ever swells on high.

But though in glory still he speaks

And loudly speaks to all;

By his example still he seeks

The wanderer to recal.

Then hear him, hear that call to-day,
Which you despised before,

And Jesus will his grace display,
To save you evermore.

FOR one, O Lord, whom much we love,

Most earnestly we pray,

O hear us, Saviour, from above,
On this thine holy day.

He lies beneath thy chastening hand,
In suffering and in pain,
Be it thy will, soon may he stand
Amongst us here again!

Restore him, Lord, restore and heal,
O raise him up once more,
For all our sorrows Thou canst feel,
Who all our sorrows bore.

Meanwhile sustain him by thy grace,
Thy presence be his stay,
And grant the smilings of thy face
To cheer him night and day.

OUR NATIVE LAND.

NATIONAL ANTHEM.

OD bless our native land!

May heaven's protecting hand
Still guard our shore;

May PEACE her sway extend,
Foe be transformed to friend,
And Britain's power depend
On WAR NO MORE.

Through every changing scene,
O Lord! preserve the Queen;
Long may she reign.

Her heart inspire and move
With wisdom from above;
And in a nation's love

Her throne maintain.

May just and righteous laws
Uphold the public cause,
And bless our Isle.

Home of the brave and free,
The land of liberty,
We pray that still on Thee
Kind heaven may smile.

And not this land alone,
But be thy mercies known
From shore to shore.
Lord, make the nations see
That men should brothers be,
And form one family,

The wide world o'er.

Oh, may the human race
God's message soon embrace,
"Good will to man,"
Hushed be the battle sound;
And, o'er the earth around,
May PEACE and LOVE abound,
Through every land.
