The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company itself owns no plants or factories in Gadsden, Alabama. The Alabama plant is owned by a corporation entirely separate and distinct from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. We have secured from the officers of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company of Alabama lists taken from their payroll records which we are submitting. Johnson Bill Miller went to Sheriff Bob Leath's office the Thursday before Dalrymple was beat up on Saturday. I was expecting to get a vacation notice to move out of my house because I had been hurt for several months and had not been at work, so I slipped up to the door to eve drop to see if they were going to put me out. I heard Miller talking to Leath and could hear Leath tell Miller, "You have your men right down on the side walk next to the new court end and I'll bring him down the back steps right out that side entrance and you can have your boys rush me right there and I will not have a gun on me." When I heard the boys were going to have their meeting Saturday night, I told my brother that if he was going to that union meeting, he had better take some brick bats, picks, knives or anything that he could get hold of because I felt sure that they were going to have trouble. I didn't tell them that I had heard the conversation in the Sheriff's office because I did not want to get into trouble, but the following Monday after it happened, I did tell my cousin, Evan Owen, State Legislator, what had happened, and he advised me to keep my mouth shut and not talk to any and every body because it would be dangerous for me if I did. There is a man who hangs around the court house quite a bit that saw me eve dropping and I will try and get his name as soon as possible. I do not belong to the rubber workers union and have never belonged to that union. This statement is made voluntarily and is the absolute truth as I heard the conversation between Bob Leath and Bill Miller. On the day of the mob violence, I saw Mr. Craigmire, Superintendent of Personnel for the Goodyear Company, right across the street, right by Hutchs' pool room, across the street from the entrance to the Tolson Building, where the boys were beat up. On that same afternoon, before the beating happened, I talked to Mr. Miller, the same Bill Miller, he wanted me to go down and help with the beating. He told me that I had just a little over a week coming from insurance from my injuries and that I was going to need some accommodation from the company. I told Mr. Miller, "now by God if you don't want them men in here, you run them out." He says, "they are no good in here" and I replied, "well, they are not doing anybody any harm".
