CONDITIONS OF SALE

All bids to be PER LOT as numbered in the Catalogue.

The highest bidder to be the buyer. In all cases of disputed bids the lot shall be resold, but the Auctioneer will use his judgment as to the good faith of all claims and his decision shall be final.

Buyers to give their names and addresses and to make such cash payments on account as may be required, in default of which the lots purchased to be immediately resold.

Goods bought to be removed at the close of each sale. If not so removed they will be at the sole risk of the purchaser, and subject to storage charges, and The Anderson Galleries, Incorporated, will not be responsible if such goods are lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed. TERMS CASH. If accounts are not paid at the conclusion of each sale, or, in the case of absent buyers, when bills are rendered, this Company reserves the right to recatalogue the goods for immediate sale without notice to the defaulting buyer, and all costs of such resale will be charged to the defaulter. This condition is without prejudice to the rights of the Company to enforce the sale contract and collect the amount due without such resale at its own option. Unsettled accounts are subject to interest at the rate of six per cent. per annum. All books are sold as catalogued, and are assumed to be in good SECOND-HAND condition. If material defects are found, not mentioned in the catalogue, the lot may be returned. Notice of such defects must be given promptly and the goods returned within ten days from the date of the sale. No exceptions will be made to this rule. Magazines and other periodicals, and all miscellaneous books arranged in parcels, are sold as they are, without recourse.

Autograph Letters, Documents, Manuscripts and Bindings are sold as they are, without recourse. The utmost care is taken to authenticate and correctly describe items of this character, but this Company will not be responsible for errors, omissions, or defects of any kind. BIDS. We make no charge for executing orders for our customers and use all bids competitively, buying at the lowest price permitted by other bids.

A RARE AND VALUABLE WORK. No copy was in the Barlow nor Ives sales. Part I. treats of the Indians; Part II. of the English Settlements in Virginia and Maryland; the advantages of the country, the negroes and their work, etc.; Part III. of the Church and Clergy; and Part IV of the government. At the end is an Appendix of nearly 75 pages. ON THE LEAF OF CONTENTS IS THE AUTOGRAPH OF EDMUND RANDOLPH.

THIS IS THE EARLIEST WORK ON THE NATURAL HISTORY OF NEW ENGLAND.
With armorial bookplate of Lord Dupplin, dated 1699.

Wherein you have the setting out of a Ship, with the charges; The prices of all the necessaries for furnishing a Planter and his Family at his first coming; A Description of the Countrey, Natives and Creatures, &c. Small 8vo, polished sprinkled calf, gilt back, gilt edges. London: Printed for Giles Widdows, 1674

VERY RARE. Has the License leaf with the Dragon, on recto, and initials "G. W." indicating the publisher; two titles; leaf of errata, and final list of books printed for Giles Widdows.

This curious little relation is couched in the oldest language, "the most uncouth expressions imaginable" as Locke says, being used. The author gives many out-of-the-way facts about medicine and surgery, and the work was written after his second visit to America. With the Marshal C. Lefferts bookplate. [This was the Beckford copy, from the Hamilton Palace sale.]

Journal Historique du Dernier Voyage que feu M. de la Sale fit dans le Golfe de Mexique, pour trouver l'embouchure, & le cours de la Riviere de Missicipi nommée à present la Riviere de Saint Louis, qui traverse la Louisiane. Folding map. 12mo, old tree calf, gilt back, canary edges.

A Paris: Chez Estienne Robinot, 1713 FIRST EDITION, with the original folding map, dated 1713, having an inset view of Niagara Falls. This map is one of the earliest delineations of the Mississippi River. Joutel was the only upright member of the La Salle party, and his Journal is to be relied on. With the John Hunter and Peter A. Porter bookplates. A note on the fly-leaf states that this was also the Beckford copy.

Written in French by Monsieur Joutel, a Commander in that Expedition; and Translated from the Edition just publish'd at Paris.
