A COMPLETE SET OF GOULD'S WORKS

183. GOULD (JOHN). A Complete Set of the Ornithological and other Works of John Gould. 45 vols., folio, uniformly bound in full green levant morocco, gilt backs and borders (tooling slightly varied), gilt edges (a few bindings slightly scraped).

London, 1831-1888

THIS MAGNIFICENT SET IS TO EUROPE, ASIA, etc., WHAT THE FOLIO AUDUBON IS TO AMERICA. All the plates were drawn from the original specimens collected by Mr. Gould, and these models were afterwards deposited by him in the Museum of the Zoological Society at London.

A COMPLETE SET SUCH AS THIS, IN SUCH BRILLIANT AND WELL-PRESERVED CONDITION, with but very few blemishes on the plates, IS EXTREMELY UNCOMMON, AND DIFFICULT TO PROCURE. So complete was the absorption of these publications, that at the time of the death of the author, NOT ONE COPY OF THE "Birds of Europe' was in the Gould remainder stock. Of the "Birds of Australia" no perfect copy was left unsold, except the pattern copy, and of the "Birds of Great Britain" only four perfect original copies remained unsold.
