4 Why restless, why cast down, my soul?
Trust God; and he'll employ

His aid for thee, and change these sighs
To thankful hymns of joy.

PSALM xliv.

N. Tate or N. Brady.

This tune may be sung in double (2-4) time.

IO LORD, our fathers oft have told

In our attentive ears,

Thy wonders in their days performed,

And in more ancient

years:

2 How thou, to plant them here, didst drive
The heathen from this land,

Afflicted by repeated strokes

Of thine avenging hand.

3 For not their courage, nor their sword,
To them possession gave;

Nor strength that from unequal force
Their fainting troops could save,-

4 But thy right hand and powerful arm,
Whose succor they implored,-
Thy presence with the chosen race,
Who thy great name adored.

5 As thee their God our fathers owned,
So thou art still our King;

O, therefore, as of old to them,
To us deliverance bring.

KINGDOM.

IRD on thy conquering sword, Ascend thy shining car;
And march, almighty Lord, To wage thy holy war:
Before his wheels,
|: Ye valleys rise,

In glad surprise,

And sink, ye hills. :||

2 Fair truth, and smiling love, And injured righteousness, Under thy banners move, And seek from thee redress: Thou in their cause

Shalt prosperous ride,

3 Before thine awful face Millions

: And far and wide
Dispense thy laws. :||
of foes shall fall,

The captives of thy grace,-The grace that conquers all: : What wondrous things Thine arm can do. :

The world shall know,

Great King of kings,

4 Here to my waiting soul Bend thy triumphant way; Here every fear control, And all thy power display:

My heart, thy throne,

Blest Jesus, see,

: Bows low to thee,-
To thee alone. :||

OD is the refuge of his saints,

GOD

When storms of sharp distress invade:

Ere we can offer our complaints,

Behold him present with his aid.

UXBRIDGE.

2 Let mountains from their seats be hurled
Down to the deep, and buried there;
Convulsions shake the solid world:
Our faith shall never yield to fear.

3 Loud may

the troubled ocean roar

In sacred peace our souls abide;
While every nation, every shore,

Trembles, and dreads the swelling tide.

4 There is a stream whose gentle flow
Supplies the city of our God;
Life, love and joy still gliding through,
And watering our divine abode.

5 That sacred stream, thy holy word,
Our grief allays, our fear controls;
Sweet peace thy promises afford,

And give new strength to fainting souls.

6 Zion enjoys her Monarch's love,

Secure against a threatening hour;
Nor can her firm foundation move,

Built on his truth, and armed with power.

PSALM xlvi. 1-5.
F. Conder.

GOD

OD is our refuge ever near,
Our help in tribulation:

Therefore his people shall not fear,
Amid a wrecked creation;

Though mountains from their base be hurled,
And ocean shake the solid world,

The Lord is our salvation.

2 The stream that flows from Zion's hill,
Shall yet, serenely gliding,
With joy the holy city fill,

His presence there abiding:

The Lord, her glory and defence,
Will guard his chosen residence,
His timely aid providing.

3 The order of thy house,

The worship of thy court,

The cheerful songs, the solemn vows,-
And make a fair report.

4

How decent and how wise!
How glorious to behold!

Beyond the pomp that charms the eyes,
And rites adorned with gold.

5 The God we worship now,
Will guide us till we die;

Will be our God while here below,
And ours above the sky.

REAT is the Lord our God,
And let his praise be great;
He makes his churches his abode,
His most delightful seat.

2 These temples of his grace,

How beautiful they stand!
The honors of our native place,
And bulwarks of our land.

3 In Zion God is known,
A refuge in distress;

How bright has his salvation shone
Through all her palaces!

4 Oft have our fathers told,

Our eyes have often seen,-
How well our God secures the fold,
Where his own sheep have been.
