To the Honorable the Legislature of the State of New-York.

THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY RESPECTFULLY REPORT,

That reports have been received by them the present year, from Columbia, Union and Hamilton colleges, from the college of physicians and surgeons in the city of New-York, and from the college of physicians and surgeons of the Western District. No report has been received this year from Geneva college.

It appears by the report of Columbia college, that the whole number of students, at the close of the last term, was one hundred and twenty-seven, and the number of students in the grammar school attached to the college is two hundred and twenty, of whom one hundred and six belong to the classical department. The president of this institution is preparing a course of lectures on the constitutional jurisprudence of the United States, which he intends to deliver to the senior class.

The report from Union college states that seventy young gen tlemen were admitted to the degree of bachelor of arts at the last annual commencement, and that the whole number of students for the current year has been two hundred and twenty-seven. Fiftytwo young men have been assisted, during the last year, from the fund granted by the State for that purpose. The trustees state, that during the past year the students of the institution have generally prosecuted their studies in a satisfactory manner, and have been exemplary in their conduct.

By the report of Hamilton college, it appears that the Rev. Henry Davis has resigned the office of president of the college, and the trustees have elected the Rev. Ichabod S. Spencer his successor, and hopes are entertained that he will accept the office. The number of students belonging to the college at the date of the report was eighty-nine.
