PREFACE.

HE great and increasing importance of that branch of Laws, over which the Court of Exchequer exercises exclusive jurisdiction, must render any apology unnecessary, for offering to the public an account of the proceedings of that Court: Considering, therefore, how little useful or interesting it could be, either to declare the motives which induced the publication of the following Reports, or to enquire why the decisions of this Court alone should be almost unknown to the public, while the proceedings in every other Court at Westminster have, for some time past, been reported periodically; it was my intention to have omitted altogether any preface; but that the kind support, which I have met with from the profession, demands my most grateful acknowledgments for the assistance which has been so liberally conferred upon me. It would, indeed, be highly gratifying to me to mention those, to whom I stand much indebted in this respect; but I am unwilling, by prefixing highly respectable names to this work, to risk the imputation of endeavouring to give it more value, than, upon examination, it will be found to be possessed of. I must, therefore, content myself with returning my sincere thanks for the kindness with which I have
