SUMMARY OF GRANTS awarded in aid of ERECTION, ENLARGEMENT, OF IMPROVEMENTS of SCHOOL BUILDINGS from 1 January to 31 December 1854. A period of eighteen months from the date of each award is allowed for claiming the payment of Building Grants. Grants for improvement or enlargement, if exceeding 501., may be claimed within twelve months from the date of the award; if less than 50l., within six months. Beyond these periods the Committee of Council on Education does not hold itself responsible for payments. From this arrangement it results that a great proportion of the grants for building, or enlargement, improvements, paid in each year, were awarded in preceding years. See two following Tables. The following Explanatory Table (A.) exhibits, under the foregoing heads, all the payments made between 1 January and 31 December 1854, including the foregoing sum of 17,6781.158.1d. The following Explanatory Table (B.) exhibits, under the foregoing heads, all the Building Grants (including from the first Table the sum of 63,7007. 48. 9d.) remaining unpaid; and which, not having lapsed before 31 December 1854, may be claimed within the year now current, in addition to those awarded within the year now current. The Parliamentary Estimate for Building Grants, in each year, is calculated with reference to the three foregoing Tables. |
