Excerpt from The Constitution of South Carolina: Adopted April 16, 1868, and the Acts and Joint Resolutions of the General Assembly, Passed at the Special Session of 1868, Together With the Military Orders Therein Re-Enacted

Section 2. All impeachments shall be tried by the Senate, and when sitting for that purpose they shall be under oath or affirmation. No er son shall be convicted except by a vote of two-thirds of all the mem rs elected. When the Governor is impeached the Chief Justice of the Su preme Court, or the senior Judge, shall preside, with a casting vote in all preliminary questions.
