They then addreffed themfelves to the Water, and entring. Chriftian began to fink, and crying out to his good Friend Hopeful, befaid, I fink in deep Waters, the Billows go over my Head, all the Waves go

over me. Selah.

Then faid the other, Be of good Cheer, Chriftimy Brother, I feel the Bottom, and it is an's Congood. Then faid Chriftian, Ah! my Friend, flit at the the Sorrow of Death hath compaffed me Hour of about, I shall not fee the Land that flows Death. with Milk and Honey. And with that a grea: Darkref and Horror fell upon Chri fias, fo that he could not fee before bim. Alfo he in a great Meafu e loft his Senf s, fo that he could neither remember, nor orderly talk of any of those sweet Refreshments that he had met with in the Way of his Pilgrimage. 'Twas alfo obferv'd, that he was troubled with Appari tions of Ho goblins and evil Spirits; for, ever and anon, he would intimate fo much by Words. Hopeful therefore here had mich ado to keep his Brother's Head above Water,

down, and then 'ere a while would rife up
half-dead. Hopeful did alfo endeavour to
comfort him, faying, Brother I fee the
Gate, and Men ftanding by to receive us;
but Chriftian would anfwer, 'Tis you, 'is
you they wait for; you have been Hopeful
ever fi ce I knew you.
And fo have you
faid he to Chriftian. Ah, Brother! faid he,
furely, if I was right, he would now rife
to help me,but for my Sins he hath brought
me into the Share, and bath left me. Then
faid Hopeful, My Brother, you have quite
forgot the Tex, where it is fid of the
Wicked, There is no Bands in their Death
but their Streng his firm, theyare not trou-
bled as other Men. reither are they plagu'd
like other Men. ThefeTroublesand Distres-
fes that you go through in these Waters, are
no fign that God hath forfaken you, but are
fent to try you whether you will call to
mind that which heretofore you have re-
ceived of his Goodnefs, and live upon bim
in your
Diftreffes.

There you fball not see again fuch things as you saw when you were in the lower Region upon the Earth, to wit, Sorrow, Sicknefs, Affliction and Death, for the former things are p ffed away. You are going new To Abraham, Ifaac, and Jacob, and to the Prophets, Men that GOD bath taken away from the Evil to come, and that are now refting upon their Beds,pach one walking in his Righteousness The Men then a k'd, What must we do in the Holy Place? Thera alfo you fall ferve him continually with Praife, with Shouting and Thanksgiving, whom you defire to ferue in the World, the with much Difficulty, because of the Infi mity of your Flesh.

There your Eyes fhall be delighted with feeing and your Ears with hearing the Voice of the Mighty ONE.

There you shall enjoy your Friends again, that are gone this her before you; and there you Shall with Joy receive even every one that fol lows into the Holy Places after you. There also you shall be cloath'd with Glory and Majefty, and put into an Equipage fit to ride out with the KING of Glory. When he shall come with found of Trumpet in the Clouds, as upon the Wings of the Wind, you shall come with
