THE Meetings of the Committees of this Society have been attended by the Right Hon. Earl of Romney, Rev. Sir H. Thompson, Bart.; Sir Thomas Phillips, Ven. Archdeacon Sinclair; T. D. Acland, Esq., W. Cotton, Esq., and Rev. John Jennings. The Welsh Education Committee has been attended by the Lord Bishop of St. David's, Lord Dynevor, Sir Thomas Phillips, and R. Goring Thomas, Esq., jun. Monthly Paper. With this Number will be found the usual Title-page and Index to the contents of the series of Papers for the year 1857. At the close of another year, it may be satisfactory to the readers of the Paper to be assured that its circulation still continues steadily to increase. The immediate sale monthly exceeds 7000 copies; the number usually printed every month being 7500, while last year the number was 6500. The portion of the Paper allotted to the subject of Sunday-Schools has been regarded with so much satisfaction, that it has been found necessary to issue copies of that part of the Paper in a separate form, as the Sunday-shcool Paper. To facilitate the circulation of that Paper, it may be well to state, that any subscriber to the Monthly Paper can have six copies of the Sunday-school Paper sent to him under the Monthly Paper cover without extra postage on pre-payment of 2s. 6d. a-year, or 3s. if not paid in advance. The remittance, therefore, for the six copies of the Sunday-school Paper, as well as the copy of the Monthly Paper, for the year 1858, would be 5s. if remitted at once, or 6s. if otherwise. In giving this notice, however, it must not be supposed that this mode of obtaining either the Monthly Paper or the Sunday-school Paper is preferred; on the contrary, the usual agency through the trade is much more convenient; and now that the circulation is to considerable, and the time of publication (the morning of the last week-day but one of the month,—as, for instance, this Number will be ready for delivery by 10 o'clock a.m. on Saturday, 28th November) most regularly observed, no country bookseller ought to have any difficulty in supplying his customers, where they reside in towns, with the Papers on the first day of each month. Those subscribers who propose to have their Paper in future through a bookseller are particularly requested to give immediate intimation of the change; while those who desire to receive the Paper as usual through the post, are reminded that to secure the advantage of the prepaid rate of subscription, the amount, 2s. 6d., should be remitted at once, or early in the new year. The subscription is 3s. when not paid in advance. VOL. XI. N Building Grants. The following Grants have been voted by the National Society in aid of building schools: West Cornwall Female Training Institution (Truro) .£300 The Treasurer has been authorised to pay the Grants voted to the Schools in the following places, now reported as completed: The Society's Local Subscription Associations. Many thanks are due to several friends of the Society for notices of meetings and sermons. A continuance of such kind communications is requested. The annual sermon of the Vale of Clwydd Church Association was preached in the parish church of Ruthin by the Rev. P. Marshall, National Society's Organising Secretary for Manchester diocese, followed by a meeting in the evening at the Townhall, Townsend Mainwaring, Esq., in the chair. The collections on both occasions were made on behalf of the funds of the National Society. The meeting was addressed by, the Warden of Ruthin, Mr. Marshall, as a deputation from the Society, and others; the proceedings being conducted, as usual, by speeches alternately in Welsh and English. Judging from the well-filled room, considerable interest seemed to be taken in the Society, from which Wales has derived so many educational advantages. On Tuesday, November 2d, a meeting of the Chudleigh Church Union was held in the National Schoolroom, for the purpose of urging upon the parishioners and neighbourhood the claims of several Church societies. The meeting was addressed by the Rev. R. K. Cornish (National Society's Organising Secretary for the diocese) for the National Society. The chair was taken by the Rev. C. A. Nevile Thomas, under whose fostering care this Association quietly and steadily works its annual course, and sends in its regular contribution to the Society's funds. A hope is expressed that the next annual meeting may be held in the new National Schools now rising in Chudleigh, and to which the Society has voted a grant of 701. During the past month sermons have been preached at Lynn Regis, Staines; St. Mary's, West Brompton, &c. by the Rev. Richard Chaffer; at Haslingden, by the Rev. C. Heath; at Dereham, and other places in Norfolk, by the Rev. J. H. Blunt. A general meeting of the friends of the Society is announced for the 3d of December, at Carlisle.
