With joy we approve the design of his love; 'Tis a wonder below, and a wonder above,

4 He came from above our curse to remove; He hath loved, he hath loved us, because he would love!

When time is no more, we still shall adore
The Saviour who loves and will love evermore.

PSALM XCV. 7, 8.

LL yesterday is past

[ocr errors]

To-morrow's not our own;
This day perchance may be our last
To bow before the the throne.

To-morrow Lord is thine,
Lodged in thy sovereign hand;
And if its sun arise and shine
It shines by thy command.
3 The present moment flies
And bears our life away;

Oh, make the careless truly wise
That they may live to day.

Hear ye his voice to day
And harden not your heart;

To-morrow he in justice may

Pronounce the doom "Depart.

Upon a fleeting hour
Eternity is hung

Lord waken by thy mighty power
The aged and the young.

LMIGHTY and eternal King, Thy praise we will for ever sing; We will extol thee day by day, And triumph in thy boundless sway. 2 From age to age, from shore to shore, Shall men thy Majesty adore; And millions bless thee for the love Which sent a Saviour from above. 3 Creator, King, Redeemer, take Our feeble praise for Jesus' sake; And may our hearts for ever bless The Lord our strength and righteousness.

thee our souls we lift;

Do thou our waiting minds prepare

For every precious gift.

2 We ask not golden streams of wealth
Along our path to flow;
We ask not undecaying health,
Nor length of years below.

3 We ask not honors, which an hour
May bring and take away ;

We ask not pleasure, pomp, and power,
Lest we should go astray.

4 We ask for wisdom: Lord impart
The knowledge how to live;

A wise and understanding heart

To all before thee give.

5 May the young love thee in their youth
Before the evil days;

And all be guided by thy truth,
In wisdom's pleasant ways.

LMIGHTY God thy grace afford, Thy saving power make known; Reach every conscience by thy word, And melt each heart of stone.

2 Thy sanctifying Spirit send

Our minds from error clear; Make us thy precepts comprehend And keep with godly fear.

3 The glorious truths which we have found
May we with firmness hold;
And like the deep and fertile ground
Bear fruit a hundred fold.

PSALM cxlv. 10.

ALMIGHTY Maker God

How wondrous is thy name! Thy glories how diffused abroad Through the creation's frame. Nature in every dress

Her humble homage pays;

And finds a thousand ways to express
Her great Creator's praise.

S. M.

3 And we with gladness bring

4

Our humble offering too;

For to our Maker and our King
All love and praise are due.

May we in duty spend
The remnant of our days;
Daily our prayers to thee ascend
And all our hours be praise.

MAZING grace! (how sweet the sound,)
That rescues one like me!

I once was lost, but now am found;

Was blind but now I see.

2 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;

How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believed!

3 Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;

'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far And grace will lead me home.

4 The Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;

He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

5 And when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;

I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

PSALM lv. 17.

NOTHER day has passed along,
And we are nearer to the tomb,
Nearer to join the heavenly song,
Or hear our everlasting doom.
2 These moments of departing day,
When thought is calm and labours cease,
Are solemn times to praise and pray,
To ask for pardon and for peace.
3 Thou God of mercy swift to hear
More swift than man to tell his need,
Be thou to us this evening near,
And to thy throne our spirits lead.
4 Teach us to pray, and having taught,
Grant us the blessings that we crave;
Without thy teaching prayer is nought,
But with it powerful to save.

GENESIS ii. 3.

ANOTHER six days' work is done,

Another sabbath is begun;

May we enjoy in holy rest

The sacred day which God has blessed. 2 O that our prayers and thanks may rise, As grateful incense to the skies.

And draw from heaven that sweet repose,
Which he who trusts in Jesus knows.

3 That heavenly calm within the breast,
Is the sure pledge of glorious rest,
