4 Jesus beholds where satan reigns, Binding his slaves in heavy chains; He sets the prisoners free, and breaks The iron bondage from our necks. 5 Poor helpless souls in thee possess Grace, wisdom, power, and righteousness; Thou art our Saviour, Lord, and we Yield up our hearts and lives to thee.
Y thy birth and by thy tears, By thy human griefs and fears, By thy fasting and distress In the lonely wilderness, By thy conflict in the hour Of the subtle tempter's power, Jesus look with pitying eye, Save us, for to thee we cry. 2 By thy care to furnish food, For the hungry multitude, By the tenderness that wept O'er the grave where Lazarus slept, By thy tears which once did stream Over lost Jerusalem,
Look on us with pitying eye, Save us, for to thee we cry.
3 By thy load of heavy care, By thine agony of prayer, By thy woes, so meekly borne, 'Midst the scoffs of hate and scorn,
By the obloquy and shame Cast by sinners on thy name, Look on us with pitying eye, Save us, for to thee we cry. 4 By thy cross and dying cries, By thy one great sacrifice, By thy triumph o'er the grave, By thy boundless power to save, Jesus, Saviour of the lost, Giver of the Holy Ghost, Look on us with pitying eye, Save us, for to thee we cry.
AN sinners hope for heaven, Who love this world so well?
Or dream of future happiness While on the road to hell?
None shall hosannas sing, With an unhallowed tongue; Nor palms adorn the guilty hand
Which does its neighbour wrong.
3 Ne'er can sin's downward way Conduct to Zion's hill;
Nor those expect with God to reign, Who disregard his will.
Thy grace, O God, alone,
Can a good hope afford;
The pardoned and renewed shall see The glory of the Lord.
ISAIAH xlii. 1-5. MALACHI iii, 6.
HANGE is our portion here!
The calm and sunny sea
Sleeps, when the wildest storm is near; So doomed to change are we: But faithful is Jehovah's word,
'I will be with thee,' saith the Lord.
2 Change is our portion here! Youth's smooth unwrinkled brow Age soon shall furrow, and the tear Down the fair cheek shall flow : But faithful is Jehovah's word, 'I will be with thee,' saith the Lord.
3 Change is our portion here! Soon fades the summer sky,
The landscape droops in autumn sear, And spring flowers bloom to die; But faithful is Jehovah's word,
'I will be with thee,' saith the Lord.
4 Change is our portion here!
Yet, 'midst our changing lot,
'Midst withering flowers and tempests drear, There is—that changes not:
Unchangeable Jehovah's word,
'I will be with thee,' saith the Lord.
5 Changeless, the way of peace; Changeless, Immanuel's name;
Changeless, the covenant of grace, Eternally the same :
'I change not,' is our Father's word, I will be with thee, saith the Lord.
CHIEF Shepherd of thy chosen sheep,
From death and sin set free,
May every under Shepherd keep
His mind intent on thee.
2 With plenteous grace their hearts prepare To execute thy will;
With pity, patience, love, and care, And faithfulness and skill.
3 Inflame their minds with holy zeal, Their flocks to feed and teach; And let them live, and let them feel, The sacred truths they preach.
1 CHILD of the dust, art thou alone, Quite unbefriended and unknown,
And hast thou been by him forgot, Who formed thy frame and fixed thy lot?
2 Who laid his Son within the
grave, Thy soul from endless death to save? Who gave his Spirit to console, And make thy wounded bosom whole? 3 Is not his voice in evening's gale? Beams not from him the star so pale?
Is there a leaf can fade or die, Unnoticed by his watchful eye?
4 Each fluttering hope, each anxious fear, Each lonely sigh, each silent tear, To thine Almighty Friend are known: Then say not thou art all alone.
1 CHILDREN of the heavenly King,
As ye journey sweetly sing,
Sing with joy your Saviour's praise, Glorious in his works and ways.
2 We are travelling home to God In the way the fathers trod; They are happy now, and we Soon their happiness shall see.
3 Foes are round us, but we stand Near the borders of our land, Jesus, God's eternal Son, Bids us, undismayed, go on.
4 Let us sing, for safe and blest, We with Jesus, soon shall rest; There our home is now prepared, There our kingdom and reward. 5 Onward then we'll gladly press Through this earthly wilderness; Only, Lord, our Leader be And we still will follow thee.
