And all the peace and joy refuse,
Which on his grace depend.

Are Satan's chains so light,
So easy to be borne,

That we thy tender love should slight,
Thy glorious freedom scorn?

To our last moments may

Our light more brightly shine ; Still may we serve thee, day by day, And be for ever thine.

PSALM xlii. 2.

L. M.

1 FOREBODINGS, sad, and anxious cares,

Are needless thorns and dangerous snares; They cast dishonor on the Lord,

And contradict his faithful word.

2 Brought safely by his hand thus far,
Why should we now give place to care?
How can we want if he provide,
Or lose our way with such a guide?

3 When first before his mercy seat,
We did to him our all commit;
He gave us warrant from that hour,
To trust his wisdom, love, and power.

4 Did ever trouble yet befall.

And he refuse to hear our call?
And hath he not the promise passed,
That we shall overcome at last?

5 He that hath helped us hitherto,
Will help us all our journey through;
And give us daily cause to raise,
New Ebenezers to his praise.

PSALM XXXii. 1.

ORGIVENESS, 'tis a joyful sound,
To rebels justly doomed to die;

Publish the bliss to all around,

Haste, for the rebel's doom is nigh.

2 For sins, which like the mountains stand,
To obstruct the sinner's path to heaven;
For sins as numerous as the sand,
God hath a perfect pardon given.
3 'Tis the rich gift of love divine,
Free as the light which God bestows;
It covers every greatest sin,

And brings the wretched to repose.
4 'Tis freely given for Jesus' sake,
To those who trust what Jesus saith;
Come, sinners come, the blessing take,
And make it yours by simple faith.
5 O God, thy mercy which imparts
Such blessings has thy servants bought;
And now we ask devoted hearts,
To love and serve thee as we ought.

EPHESIANS ii. 12, 13.

1 FOUNTAIN of each dearest blessing, Tune my heart to sing thy grace,

L. M.

8. 7.

Streams of mercy never ceasing,

Call for songs of loudest praise.
2 Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
And to save my soul from danger,
Interposed his precious blood.

3 Oh, to grace, how great a debtor,
Daily I'm constrained to be!
Freed from every sinful fetter,
Saviour let me live to thee.

4 Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Take this wayward heart and seal it,
With thy Spirit from above.

EPHESIANS i. 3-7.

1 FREE grace alone can wipe the tears

Of sorrow from our eye;

Or raise us from oppressive fears,
To joys that never die.

2 Free grace alone can make us tread,
As saints have ever trod;

The paths of holiness which lead,
To glory and to God.

3 Free grace before we reach the grave,
Can take its gloom away;

From every sin and danger save,
And us to heaven convey.

C. M.

4 Then will we trust to God alone;
Till with the saints above,

We sing before our Saviour's throne,
His everlasting love.

[blocks in formation]

FROM all that dwell below the skies,
Let the Creator's praise arise;

Let the Redeemer's name be sung
Through every land, by every tongue.

2 Eternal are thy mercies, Lord,
Eternal truth attends thy word;

L M.

Thy praise shall sound from shore to shore, Till suns shall rise and set no more.

PSALM CXXX.

FROM depths of woe to God I cry,

And God my cry will hear:

The friend of sinners reigns on high,
And suppliants need not fear.

2 I cast me on thy plighted word,
I knock at mercy's gate;
Oh hear my supplication, Lord!
Receive me 'ere too late.

3 As seamen on the stormy main,
As pilgrims on their road,
Look out by night for morn again,
So looks my soul for God.

C. M.

4 Sweet are the dawnings of thy grace,
More sweet than perfect day;
Rise, Sun of righteousness, and chase,
Each lingering cloud away!

FROM

NUMBERS X. 29.

ROM Egypt lately come, -
Where death and darkness reign,
We seek our new, our better home,
Where we our rest shall gain.
Hallelujah,

We are on our way to God.

2 There sin and sorrow cease,
And every conflict's o'er;

There we shall dwell in endless peace,
And never hunger more;
Hallelujah,

We are on our way to God.
3 There in celestial strains,
Enraptured myriads sing;
There love in every bosom reigns,
For God himself is King;
Hallelujah,

We are on our way to God.
4 We soon shall join the throng,
Their sacred pleasures share;
And sing the everlasting song,
With all the ransomed there;
Hallelujah,

We are on our way to God.
