From the formation of the sky,
To the great burning day.

4 Eternity with all its years,
Stands present in thy view;
To thee there's nothing old appears,
Great God, there's nothing new.

5 Our lives through various scenes are drawn,
And vexed with trifling cares;
While thine eternal thought moves on
Thine undisturbed affairs.

6 Great God, how infinite art thou!
What worthless worms are we!
Let the whole race of creatures bow,
And pay their praise to thee.

ROMANS xi. 15, 23, 26.

YREAT God of Abraham, hear our prayer,

1 GR

Let Abraham's seed thy mercies share: Oh, may they now at length return,

And look on Him they pierced, and mourn.

2 For Israel was thy flock of old;
Bring home the wanderers to thy fold:
Remember too thy promised word,
"Israel at last shall seek the Lord."

3 Though outcasts still, estranged from thee,
Cut off from their own olive tree,
Why should they longer such remain?
For thou canst graft them in again.

N

4 Lord, put thy law within their hearts,
Write it within their inward parts;
And rend at length the veil in two
Which hides Messiah from their view.

5 Oh, haste the day, foretold so long,
When Jew and Greek, (a glorious throng),
One fold shall seek, one prayer shall pour,
And one Redeemer shall adore.

REAT God of wonders, all thy ways
Display thine attributes divine;
But the fair glories of thy grace
Beyond thine other wonders shine:
Who is a pardoning God like thee,
Or who has grace so rich and free?

2 Such deep transgressions to forgive,
Such guilty daring worms to spare,
This is thine own prerogative,
And in the honor none shall share ;
Who is a pardoning God like thee,
Or who has grace so rich and free?

3 Pardon, from an offended God!
Pardon, for sins of deepest dye!
Pardon, bestowed through Jesus' blood!
Pardon, that brings the rebel nigh!
Who is a pardoning God like thee,
Or who has grace so rich and free?

PSALM clxv. 1-10.

1 GREAT GOD, 'tis not for feeble man

Thy nature or thy works to scan,

With reverential awe we own
Thy glories never can be known.

2 The seraph who with laboring thought,
For ages
has this knowledge sought,

Its height or depth can never find,
Nor fully know thy boundless mind.
3 Yet Lord, thy kindness deigns to show
Enough for mortal minds to know;
While wisdom, goodness, power divine,
Through all thy works, and conduct shine.
4 Thy love has given thy only Son,
For our transgressions to atone ;
Thy mercy and thy power divine
Have raised to life the dead in sin.
5 It is thy goodness which has given
Thy word to show our way to heaven;
And 'tis thy grace alone doth lead
Our feet the heaven-ward way to tread.
6 Through every snare thy love and power
Have kept us safely to this hour;

And never wilt thou those forsake, Whom thou dost for thy children take. 7 Oh, may our souls with rapture trace Thy works of nature and of grace; Explore thy sacred name, and still Press on to know and do thy will.

REVELATION xx. 11.

P. M.

GREAT God! what do I see and hear?

1 G

The end of things created!

Behold the Judge of man appear,
On clouds of glory seated!

The trumpet sounds! the graves restore
The dead which they contained before!
Prepare my soul to meet him.

2 The dead in Christ shall first arise,
At the last trumpet's sounding;
Caught up to meet him in the skies,
With joy their Lord surrounding:
No gloomy fears their souls dismay,
His presence sheds eternal day,

On those prepared to meet him.

3 Great God! what do I see and hear?
The end of things created!
Behold the Judge of man appear,
On clouds of glory seated!
Low at his cross I view the day,
When heaven and earth shall
pass away,
And thus prepare to meet him.

REAT God, whose universal sway, The known and unknown worlds obey! Now give the kingdom to thy Son; Extend his power, exalt his throne. 2 Thy sceptre well becomes his hands,

All heaven submits to his commands:

His worship and his fear shall last
Till hours and years, and time be past.
3 As rain on meadows newly mown,
So shall he send his influence down;
His
grace on fainting souls distils,
Like heavenly dew on thirsty hills.

4 The heathen lands that lie beneath,
The shades of overspreading death,
Shall greet at length the dawning light,
And deserts blossom at the sight.

5 The saints shall flourish in his days,
Proclaim their joy and sing his praise;
And peace, a river from his throne,
Shall flow to every nation known.

REAT is the Lord, whose works of might
Transcend our highest thought;

Let his assembled saints unite

To adore him as they ought.

2 Great is the mercy of the Lord,
Who gives his children food;
And, ever mindful of his word,
Supplies them with all good.

3 Holy and glorious is his name,
His ways are just and pure;

And at his word our Saviour came,
Our welfare to secure.
