Yet Jesus doth our souls invite,
And bids us freely come.

4 Ye saints below, and hosts above,
Join all your sacred powers;
No theme is like redeeming love,
No Saviour is like ours.

CLOSE OF WORSHIP.

LORD, dismiss us with thy blessing,
Fill our hearts with joy and peace,
Let us each, thy love possessing,
Triumph in redeeming grace:
Oh, refresh us,

Travelling through the wilderness.
2 Thanks we give, and adoration
For thy gospel's joyful sound;
May the fruits of thy salvation
In our hearts and lives abound:
Ever faithful

To thy truth may we be found.
3 So whene'er the signal's given,
Us from earth to call away,
Borne on angel's wings to heaven,
Glad the summons to obey,
May we ever

Reign with Christ in endless day.

325 PSALM XCV. 7. 8. 2 CORINTHIANS. vi. 2. L. M.

1 L

ORD, fill our hearts with godly fear,
Help each one solemnly to think

A vast eternity is near,

And every soul is on the brink.
2 Help too, thy minister to preach
As if he ne'er should preach again;
As sent for one brief hour to teach,
A dying man to dying men.

3 And may we all attend to-night
Before the day of grace is past;
Nor dare thy present message slight,
Which may perhaps be found the last.

PSALM iii. 5.

ORD for the mercies of the night Our grateful thanks we pay ; And bring thee, with returning light, The first fruits of the day.

2 May this day praise thee O our God,
And so may all our days;

And when we reach our last abode
We'll give eternal praise.

ACTS ii. 1-4.

ORD God the Holy Ghost,
In this accepted hour,

As on the day of Pentecost,
Descend in all thy power:
We meet with one accord,
In our appointed place:
And wait the promise of our Lord,
The Spirit of all grace.

2 Like mighty rushing wind Upon the waves beneath,

3

Move with one impulse every mind,
One soul, one feeling breathe:
The young, the old, inspire

With wisdom from above,

And give us hearts and tongues of fire,
To pray, and praise, and love.

Spirit of light, explore

And chase our gloom away,

With lustre shining more and more
Unto the perfect day:

Spirit of truth, be thou,

In life and death, our guide;
O Spirit of adoption, now
May we be sanctified.

JOHN xiii. 15. MATTHEW XXVI. 39.
COLOSSIANS iii. 1, 2.

LORD, if thou thy grace impart,
Poor in spirit, meek in heart,

We shall, as our Master, be

Clothed with true humility.

2 Since thy love and grace we know,
May we rise from things below;
Seek not to be great or high,
Lowly both in heart and eye.

3 Thankful, teachable, and kind,
Always to thy will resigned;

Pleased with what thy love provides,
Weaned from all the world besides.

MATTHEW ⭑vi. 24-27.

ORD Jesus may our temper be

Daily to take the cross like thee; Content to bear it by thy side,

And with thee to be crucified.

L. M

2 Thy life seemed short, thy death seemed nigh, When thou didst walk to Calvary;

So may we feel, a moment gone
And all our work on earth is done.
3 Thou didst consent to suffer thus,
And to be crucified for us;

And thus may we, beneath thine eye,
Our lusts condemn and crucify.

[ocr errors]

4 The world had done for thee its worst, It had blasphemed, condemned, and cursed; Thou didst not heed its judgment then, Nor seek that hour the praise of men. 5 So make us willing men should say Of us," Away with them, away,' Give them the scourge, the buffet give, "It is not fit that they should live." 6 Like thee may we love God and man, Do all the good on earth we can ; All happiness for all create,

And then be willing men should hate. 7 Heedless of scorn that they may cast, Remembering God will judge at last, May we ask him our way to try, Who ever judgeth righteously.

Y

8 So Saviour may we bear the cross, Content to suffer shame and loss; Anticipate our blest abode,

Despise the shame and rise to God.

ISAIAH xl. 11.

ORD Jesus thou dost lead thy flock
Beside the gentle stream;

And where the shadow of the rock
Shields from the noontide beam.

2 No ravening wolves, no robber band,
Can hurt for thou art nigh;
And we are safe, beneath thy hand,
And guided by thine eye.

3 Oh, may we listen to thy voice
Nor wander from thee more;
In thy unfailing care rejoice,
And all thy love adore.

MALACHI iv. 2. ZECHARIAH xiv. 9.

LOR

ORD, let thy gospel shine
O'er the world's starless night;

And prosper each design

To spread the gospel light:

Forth let the streaming sunshine flow,
That all the earth thy love may know.

2 Oh let the nations hear

The gospel of thy grace;

Thee their Creator fear,

And love, and pray, and praise :
