3 Thou dost in heaven thy throne maintain,
Thou dost o'er earth and nature reign;
And to redeem thy chosen race
Hast given us Christ our hiding place.
4 Jesus, we know thy saving name,
And trust in thee th' atoning Lamb;
We are thy purchase; take thine own,
And make each conquered heart thy throne.

[blocks in formation]

1 NOT to condemn the sons of men
Did Christ the Son of God appear;
No weapon in his hands are seen,
No flaming sword nor thunder there.
2 Such was the pity of our God,
He loved the race of man so well,
He sent his Son to bear our load,
And save our guilty souls from hell.
3 Sinner, believe the Saviour's words;
Trust in his cross alone and live;
A thousand joys his grace affords
His hands a thousand blessings give.

NOT

OT unto us, but thee, O Lord
Be praise and glory given;

For every gracious thought and word,
Which brings us nearer heaven.

2 Thy saints are in thy faithful hand,
Secure beneath thine eye;

7's.

And safe, at last, they all shall stand
Before thy throne on high.

3 Redeemed from sin, and saved by grace,
Thy glory they shall see;

And eye to eye, and face to face,
For ever dwell with thee.

4 Oh, hasten Lord, the glorious day;
Call all thy children home;
And teach us all with hope to say
Lord Jesus, quickly come.

EPHESIANS v. 25. GALATIANS ii. 20.
REVELATION i. 5-6.

1 NOW begin the heavenly theme,

Triumph in our Saviour's name;

Ye who Jesus' kindness prove,

Sing of his redeeming love.

2 Mourning souls, restrain your tears;
Quiet unbelieving fears;

See your guilt and curse remove,
Cancelled by redeeming love.

3 Ye, alas! who long have been
Willing slaves of death and sin,
Now from bliss no longer rove,
Oh, believe redeeming love.

4 Welcome all, by sin oppressed,
Welcome to the Saviour's rest;
Nothing brought him from above,
Nothing but redeeming love.

5 Hither, then, your tribute bring,
Strike aloud each joyful string;
Saints below, and saints above,
Join to praise redeeming love.

364 ROMANS V. 20, 21. EPHESIANS i. 3–8.—ii. 4–9. C. M. 1 NOW gracious God accept our praise,

And teach our stammering tongues

To make thy sovereign, reigning, grace,
The subject of our songs.

2 Grace reigns to pardon crimson sins,
To melt the hardest hearts;
And from the work it once begins
It never more departs.

3 The world and Satan strive in vain
Though saints are weak and few;
Secured by grace's conquering reign.
They all shall conquer too.

4 Grace tills the soil, and sows the seeds,
Provides the sun and rain;
Till from the tender blade proceeds
The ripened harvest grain.

5 'Twas grace that called our souls at first,
By grace thus far we're come;

And grace will help us through the worst,
And lead us safely home.

6 Lord, when this changing life is past
If we may see thy face,

How shall we praise, and love at last,
And sing the reign of grace!

7 Yet let us aim while here below
Thy mercy to display;

And own, at least, the debt we owe,
And serve thee day by day.

PUBLIC WORSHIP.

C. M.

1 WOW, gracious Lord, thine arm reveal,

And make thy glory known;

Now let us all thy presence feel,

And soften hearts of stone.

2 Help us to venture near thy throne,
And plead a Saviour's name;
For all that we can call our own,
Is vanity and shame.

3 [From all the guilt of former sin
May mercy set us free;
And let the year we now begin,
Begin and end with thee.]

4 Send down thy Spirit from above,
That saints may love thee more ;
And sinners now may learn to love,
Who never loved before.

5 And when before thee we appear,
In our eternal home,

May joyful numbers worship here,
And praise thee in our room.

NOW

HEBREWS ii. 16. 1 PETER i. 12.
REVELATION v, 11, 12.

L. M.

TOW let us join with hearts and tongues,
To praise the Lord in joyful songs;

For sinners may address their King,

In songs that angels cannot sing.

2 They praise the Lamb who once was slain,
Man's curse to bear, man's bliss to gain;
But we can say he suffered thus,
In mercy to atone for us.

3 They, as they bow before our King,
His truth and righteousness may sing;
But we, on whom his grace he showers,
Can say, this righteousness is ours.

4 They may his glorious goodness prove,
Who love him with a perfect love;
But we, his glory soon shall share,
Who were so lately near despair.

5 Join then, ye saints, with hearts and tongues,
To praise the Lord in joyful songs;
For sinners may address their King,
In songs that angels cannot sing.

ISAIAH liii. 6.

NOW let us raise our cheerful strains,
And join the blissful choirs above;

There our exalted Saviour reigns,

And there they sing his wondrous love.
