2 While seraphs tune the immortal song,
Oh, may we feel the sacred flame;
And every heart, and every tongue,
Adore the Saviour's glorious name!
3 Jesus, our Lord, upon the tree,
In agony and shame expired;
Because our curse he grieved to see,
Because our triumph he desired.

4 Jesus has died that we might live,
Died in the wretched traitor's place;
Oh, what returns can sinners give
For such immeasurable grace;

5 Yet, though thy goodness so divine
Surpasses all our love and praise,
Jesus, may all our hearts be thine,
And may we serve thee all our days.

ROMANS Viii. 26. EPHESIANS vi. 18.
ISAIAH vi. 6, 7. MATTHEW Xxviii. 20.

NOW may the Spirit's holy fire,

Descending from above,

Our waiting hearts with faith inspire
With joy, and peace, and love.

2 Thee we the Comforter confess;
Unless thou'rt present here,
We shall in vain our God address,
We utter heartless prayer.

3 Blessed Spirit teach us how to praise,
To meditate and pray,

C. M.

And while our thoughts to God we raise,
Bless us with grace to-day.

4 Touch with a living coal, the lip
That shall proclaim thy word;
And make us all in meekness keep,
The precepts of our Lord.

JOHN i. 14. 2 CORINTHIANS iii, 18,
HEBREWS 1, 3.

TOW to the Lord a grateful song

NOW

L. M.

Let heaven and ransomed earth prolong ;
Hosannas praise the eternal name,
All men his boundless love proclaim.

2 The spacious earth and spreading flood
Proclaim the wise, all-powerful, God;
And the same glories from afar
Sparkle in every rolling star.

3 But we behold in Jesus' face
The brightest image of his grace;
God, in the person of his Son,
Has all his mightiest works outdone.

4 Grace, 'tis a sweet a gladdening theme:
Our hearts rejoice at Jesus' name;
Ye angels, bless him in your lays;
Thou ransomed earth, thy Saviour praise.

5 May we but reach the blissful place
Where his saints see him face to face,
Oh, with what love shall we behold
The goodness which can ne'er be told.

REVELATION i. 5-7. HEBREWS ii. 17.
EPHESIANS i. 20-23.

L. M.

1 NOW to the Lord that makes us know His great, his unexampled love,

Be ceaseless honors paid below,

And nobler services above.

2 Bearing our curse he shed his blood
To obtain the pardon of our sins;
His love restores the lost to God,
Our hearts renews, our safety wins.
3 At length in glory he will come,
All heaven and earth their King will own;
And saints, arising from the tomb,
Will crowd triumphant round his throne.
4 To Jesus, our atoning Priest,
To Jesus, our Almighty King,
Let all from guilt and sin released
Their tribute of affection bring.

TITUS iii. 5. REVELATION Xiii. 8.
EPHESIANS i. 3-5. GALATIANS iv. 4, 5.

NOW to the
[OW to the power of God supreme,
Be everlasting honors given;

He saves from hell, (we bless his name) Ho calls our wandering feet to heaven. 2 Nor for our duties or deserts,

But of his own abundant grace, He works salvation in our hearts, And forms a people for his praise. 3 'Twas his own purpose that begun To rescue rebels doomed to die;

L. M.

He gave us grace in Christ his Son,
Before he spread the starry sky.

4 Jesus, the Lord, appears at last,
And makes his Father's counsels known;
Declares the great transactions past,
And brings immortal blessings down.
5 He dies; and in that dreadful night
Did all the powers of hell destroy;
Rising, he brought our heaven to light,
And took possession of the joy.

MATTHEW vi. 10.-xxvi. 39, 42.

C. M.

GOD by all thy works made known,
Thy children's prayer fulfil;

Help us thy sovereign rights to own,
And to obey thy will.

2 In all the comforts of our lives,
May we thy goodness see;
Nor let the joys thy goodness gives,
Estrange our hearts from thee.

3 Teach us in trial and distress,
To bear our needful load;
And grow in grace and holiness,
Beneath thy chastening rod.

4 Whate'er the joys with which we part,
Whate'er the ills we prove,

Grant us a meek and lowly heart,
A beart to trust and love.

5 Preserve us that we never stray,
But live in godly fear;

And give us grace to watch and pray,
With strength to persevere.

6 So may we yield our parting breath,
Free from all dread and care;

And pass with joy through pain and death, Our Saviour's bliss to share.

O

LAMENTATIONS iii. 22. 23.

GOD, how endless is thy love! Thy gifts are every evening new; And morning mercies from above Gently distil like early dew.

L. M.

2 Thou spread'st the curtains of the night,
Great Guardian of our sleeping hours;
Thy sovereign word restores the light,
And quickens all our slumbering powers.
3 We yield our powers to thy command;
To thee we consecrate our days;
Perpetual blessings from thy hand
Demand perpetual songs of praise.

[blocks in formation]

10 GOD of love, how blest are they
Who in thy ways delight!

Thy presence guides them all the day,
And keeps them all the night.

2 Whene'er they faint, a mighty arm
Is nigh them to uphold;

C. M.
