4 Praise the God of our salvation;

Hosts on high his power proclaim; Heaven and earth, and all creation Laud and magnify his name.

[blocks in formation]

1 PRAISE to God, immortal praise,
For the love that crowns our days;
Bounteous source of every joy,
Let thy praise our tongues employ ;
2 For the blessings of the field,
For the stores our gardens yield,
Flocks that whiten all the plain,
Yellow sheaves of ripened grain;
3 Flowers that blossom fresh and fair,
Scenting all the fragrant air;
Clouds that drop refreshing dews,
Sunbeams that their warmth diffuse.
4 All that spring, with bounteous hand,
Scatters o'er the smiling land,

All that liberal autumn pours
From her rich and varied stores,
5 These to thee, O God, we owe,
Source from whence our comforts flow;
These, through all our happy days,
Claim our songs of love and praise.

ROMANS vi. 9. 1 CORINTHIANS XV. 15-55. C. M.

1 PRAISE to the Lord from all who breathe, He clothed himself in clay,

Entered the iron gates of death,
And tore the bars away.

2 Death is no more a dreadful king,
Since our Redeemer rose;
Dying, he took away its sting,
And spoiled our hellish foes.

3 They saw him reach the highest heaven,
His angels saw him rise;

And countless souls to him were given,
His promised blood-bought prize.

4 Now let our humble heartfelt songs
Ascend to his abode;

For all that we can give, belongs
To our incarnate God.

5 And while the earth its tribute brings
Through its appointed days,

May heaven and all created things,
Sound forth his endless praise.

PSALM CXlvi.

L. M.

1 PRAISE ye the Lord; our hearts shall join To praise his power and love divine;

Now, while the earth is our abode,
And when our souls ascend to God.

2 Praise shall employ our noblest powers,
While immortality endures:

Our days of praise shall ne'er be past,
While life, and thought, and being last.

power,

3 Why should we fondly place our trust
On those who soon must turn to dust?
All wealth and rank, all
pomp and
Are but the pageant of an hour.
4 Happy the men whose hopes rely
On God, who made the earth and sky :
O'er earth and sky extends his reign,
And none shall find his promise vain.

PSALM CXlvi.

L. M.

1 PRAISE ye the Lord: our souls shall praise And bless him, throughout all our days; And when this earthly life is past, As long as thought and being last. 2 Happy are they whose hearts rely On him who built the earth and sky; For he, almighty to defend,

Will guard and keep them to the end. 3 Thrice happy! for his word is sure, He will provide, though they are poor; He helps them in their worst distress, And never leaves them comfortless. 4 And he will reign, when time is done, Supreme on his eternal throne;

He, only he, shall be adored;

Ye ransomed sinners, bless the Lord.

[blocks in formation]

PRAISE ye the Lord; 'tis good to raise
Our hearts and voices in his praise;

His nature and his works unite
To make this duty our delight.

2 He hears the wretched when they cry,
And saves the souls about to die;
His kindness heals the broken heart;
His love sweet comfort doth impart.

3 He gave the stars their mighty frames,
He counts their numbers, calls their names;
His empire's limits, who hath found?
His power and wisdom, who can bound?
4 He makes the grass the hills adorn,
And clothes the smiling fields with corn:
The beasts with food his hands supply,
And the young ravens when they cry.
5 But chiefly doth he love the just,
Who in his mercy hope and trust;
Who fear his wrath, who seek his care,
And pour in faith their filial

prayer.

6 Great is the Lord, and great his might,
His glorious goodness infinite!
Sing ye his praise, exalt him high,
And let his praises never die.

456 REVELATION. 5, 6. EPHESIANS iii. 14–19.

2 TIMOTHY ii. 12,

L. M.

1 PRAISE your Redeemer, praise his name, Ye saints who live upon his grace; Praise him whose love remains the same, Through every change of time and place.

2 He came from heavenly bliss to bring
Glad tidings of salvation down;
And we have cause his praise to sing,
Who hope for an immortal crown.
3 He loved us when as yet we lay
In bondage under Satan's rod;
He died

upon the cross to pay

The ransom of our souls to God,

4 He loved us when he bore the cross,
He loves us now upon his throne ;
And if for him we suffer loss,
He will at last our service own.
5 He loved us in his bliss before
The wheels of time began to move;
And he, when time shall be no more,
Will love us with eternal love.

PSALM iii. 5.—iv. &

1 PROTECT us in thy mercy, Lord, Through all the hours of night;

And graciously to us afford

The safeguard of thy might.

2 With cheerful hearts we close our eyes,
Since thou wilt not remove;

And may we in the morning rise
Rejoicing in thy love.

3 Safe in thy care thy children keep,
Through all our transient days;
Then take us where no night nor sleep
Shall interrupt our praise.
