Then justice asks no more; Mercy and truth are now agreed, Which stood opposed before. The Lord is risen indeed, Then is his work performed; Our captive Surety now is freed, And Satan is disarmed.

4

The Lord is risen indeed,
He lives to die no more;

He lives the sinner's cause to plead,
Whose curse and shame he bore.

5 Then swell your triumphs higher,
Praise him by all adored;

And strive to join the heavenly choir,
Who sing our risen Lord.

2 CORINTHIANS vi. 18.

THE Lord Jehovah reigns,

THE

His throne is built on high;

The garments he assumes

Are light and majesty:

His glories shine with beams so bright,

No mortal eye can bear the sight.

The thunders of his hand

Keep the wide world in awe;
His wrath and justice stand

To guard his holy law;

And where his love resolves to bless,

His truth confirms and seals the grace.

6. 8.

And can this mighty King

Of glory condescend?

And will he write his name

Our Father and our Friend?

We love his name, we love his word,
Join all our powers, and praise the Lord.

THE

MATTHEW Xxviii. 6.

HE Lord of glory let us praise,
In concert with the blest,

Who, joyful in harmonious lays,
Employ an endless rest:

Thus, Lord, while we remember thee
We to thy image grow;
And while we praise thee, learn to be
Triumphant here below.

2 On this glad day a brighter scene
Of glory was displayed,

By God, the Eternal Word, than when
This universe was made:

He rises, who mankind has bought
With grief and pain extreme;

C. M.

'Twas great to speak a world from nought, 'Twas greater to redeem.

HE Lord of might, from Sinai's brow,
Gave forth his voice of thunder,

And Israel lay on earth below,

Outstretched in fear and wonder;

Beneath his feet was pitchy night,
And at his left hand and his right

The rocks were rent asunder.

2 The Lord of love, on Calvary,
A meek and suffering stranger,
Upraised to heaven his languid eye
In nature's hour of danger;
For us he bore the weight of woe,
For us he gave his blood to flow,
And met his Father's anger.

3 The Lord of love, the Lord of might,
The King of all created,

Shall back return to claim his right,
On clouds of glory seated;
With trumpet-sound and angel-song,
And hallelujahs loud and long,
O'er death and hell defeated.

1 THE Lord our pasture shall prepare,

L. M

And feed us with a Shepherd's care;
His
presence shall our wants supply,
And guard us with a watchful eye:
Our noonday walks he shall attend,
And all our midnight hours defend.

2 When in the sultry glebe we faint,
Or on the thirsty mountain pant,
To fertile vales and dewy meads
Our weary wandering steps he leads,

Where peaceful rivers, soft and slow,
Amid the verdant landscape flow.

3 Though in the path of death we tread,
With gloomy horrors overspread,
Our stedfast hearts shall fear no ill,
If thou, O Lord, art with us still;
Thy friendly crook shall give us aid,
And guide us through the dreadful shade.

HE Lord shall come; the earth shall quake,
The hills their fixed seats forsake;
And, withering from the vault of night,
The stars shall pale their feeble light.

2 The Lord shall come; but not the same
As once in lowly guise he came;
A silent lamb before his foes,
A weary man, and full of woes;

3 The Lord shall come; a dreadful form,
With rainbow wreath, and robe of storm,
On cherub wings, and wings of wind,
Anointed Judge of all mankind.

4 Can this be he, who wont to stray
A pilgrim on the world's highway,
Oppressed by power, and mocked by pride,
The Nazarene-the crucified?

5 While sinners to the rocks complain,
And seek the mountain's cleft in vain,
The saints, ascending from the tomb,
Shall joyful sing, The Lord is come.

JOHN xiv. 13, 14. 1 JOHN v. 14, 15.

HE Lord whene'er his people pray,
Doth their petitions hear;

He knows not only what we say,

But what we wish or fear.

2 He sees us when we are alone,
Though no one else can see:
And all our thoughts to him are known,
Wherever we may be.

3 'Tis not enough to bend the knee,
And words of prayer to say;
The heart must with the lips agree,
Or else we do not pray.

4 Teach us, O Lord, to pray aright,
Thy grace to us impart;

That we in prayer may take delight,
And serve thee with the heart.

5 Then heavenly Father, at thy throne,
Thy praise we will proclaim;
And daily our requests make known
In our Redeemer's name.

PSALM Xxiii.

HE Lord our Shepherd is,
We shall be well supplied;
Since he is ours, and we are his,
What can we want beside?

He leads us to the place
Where heavenly pasture grows
