SPECIAL TERMS OF COURT

EXTRAORDINARY TRIAL TERM OF THE SUPREME COURT TO BE HELD IN THE COUNTY OF NEW YORK FOR THE PURPOSE OF TRYING ALL INDICTMENTS HERETOFORE FOUND AND PENDING GROWING OUT OF THE MURDER OF BARNET BAFF

STATE OF NEW YORK - EXECUTIVE CHAMBER

It appearing to my satisfaction that the public interest requires it;

THEREFORE, In accordance with the statute in such case made and provided, I do hereby appoint an extraordinary trial term of the Supreme Court to be held at the criminal court house in the county of New York on Thursday, January 17, 1918, at ten o'clock in the forenoon of that day for the purpose of trying any and all indictments heretofore found and now pending and any and all indictments hereafter to be found, growing out of the murder of Barnet Baff, and for such other business which may be brought before said term, and which term is to continue as long as may be necessary for the disposal of the business which may be brought before it, and I do hereby designate the Honorable Irving G. Hubbs of Pulaski, N. Y., a Justice of the Supreme Court of the Fifth Judicial District, to hold said extraordinary trial term as hereinbefore described, and I do hereby direct that notice of such appointment be given by publication of this order for two insertions in the

New York Law Journal, a paper published in the county of New York, one insertion in such Journal for the week of December 31, 1917, and the other for the week of January 7, 1918.

EXTRAORDINARY SPECIAL TERM OF THE SUPREME COURT TO BE HELD AT CAMP UPTON, YAPHANK, SUFFOLK COUNTY, FOR THE PURPOSE OF NATURALIZING MEN SELECTED FOR SERVICE IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY

STATE OF NEW YORK-EXECUTIVE CHAMBER

In my opinion, public interest requires that an extraordinary Special Term of the Supreme Court be held at the Judge Advocate's Office at Camp Upton, Yaphank, Suffolk County, New York, commencing on May 22, 1918, for the purpose of naturalizing men who have been selected for service in the United States Army, and are now at Yaphank in the service of the United States.

I therefore do hereby designate an extraordinary Special Term of the Supreme Court to be held at the Judge Advocate's Office, Camp Upton, Yaphank, Suffolk County, New York, on the 22d day of May, 1918.

and to continue until the completion of such Term as may be deemed necessary by the Judge hereinafter named, presiding, and for that purpose I hereby name, appoint and designate Joseph Morschauser, Justice of the Supreme Court of the Ninth Judicial District, to hold and preside at such extraordinary Special Term.

The Clerk of said Court is hereby directed to take no fees and make no charges of any kind for the naturalization of persons in the United States Service. May 18, 1918.

The Authorities at Washington Approve of the Issuance of Order Calling Extraordinary Special Term of the Supreme Court at Camp Upton, Yaphank, Suffolk County

His Excellency, The Governor of the State of New York, St. Regis Hotel, Fifth Avenue and 55th Street, New York, N. Y.:

SIR.In connection with the matter of a naturalization court to be held at the office of the Adjutant General at Camp Upton, N. Y., I am furnishing hereunder, for your information, and at the request of his Honor, Mr. Justice Morschauser, an extract from the Act of Congress approved May 9, 1918:

During the time when the United States is at war no clerk of a United States Court shall charge or collect a naturalization fee from an

alien in the military service of the United States for filing his petition or issuing the certificate of naturalization upon admission to citizenship, and no clerk of any State court shall charge or collect any fee for this service unless the laws of the State require such charge to be made, in which case nothing more than the portion of the fee required to be paid to the State shall be charged or collected."

I beg also to advise you that the designation under the laws of this State to hold naturalization court at Camp Upton has the approval of the authorities at Washington.

I am sending this communication to you by my assistant, Mr. Muller, and shall appreciate it if you will be good enough to advise him whether the designation has been signed.

STATE OF NEW YORK-EXECUTIVE CHAMBER

In my opinion, public interest requires that an Extraordinary Special Term of the Supreme Court be held at Madison Barracks, Sacket Harbor, Jefferson County, New York, commencing on June 22, nineteen hundred and eighteen, for the purpose of nat

uralizing men who have been selected for service in the United States Army.

I, therefore, do hereby designate an Extraordinary Special Term of the Supreme Court to be held at Madison Barracks, Sacket Harbor, Jefferson County, New York, on the twenty-second day of June, nineteen hundred and eighteen, and to continue until the completion of such term as may be deemed necessary by the Justice hereinafter named, presiding, and for that purpose, I hereby name, appoint and designate Hon. Edgar C. Emerson, of Watertown, a Justice of the Supreme Court of the Fifth Judicial District, to hold and preside at such Extraordinary Special Term.

The Clerk of said Court is hereby directed to take no fees and make no charges of any kind for the naturalization of persons in the United States Service.
