m 2 Jesus, thou art all compassion,
Pure, unbounded love thou art ;
Visit us with thy salvation,
Enter every trembling heart.

3 Come, almighty to deliver,
Let us all thy life receive;
Suddenly return, and never,

Never more thy temples leave.

mf 4 Thee we would be always blessing,
Serve thee as thy hosts above,
Pray, and praise thee, without ceasing,
Glory in thy perfect love.

m 5 Finish then thy new creation :
Pure and spotless let us be;
Let us see thy great salvation
Perfectly restored in thee;

mf 6 Changed from glory into glory,
Till in heaven we take our place,
Till we cast our crowns before thee,
Lost in wonder, love, and praise.

mp 1 SAVIOUR, breathe an evening blessing, Ere repose our spirits seal;

с

Sin and want we come confessing;

Thou canst save and thou canst heal. ? Though the night be dark and dreary, Darkness cannot hide from thee; Thou art he who, never weary, Watchest where thy people be.

mp

m

p 2 Though destruction walk around us,
Though the arrow past us fly,
Angel-guards from thee surround us;
We are safe, if thou art nigh.

mf

PP Should swift death this night o'ertake us, And our couch become our tomb,

May the morn in heaven awake us,
Clad in light and deathless bloom.

mf 1 THROUGH the night of doubt and sorrow
Onward goes the pilgrim band,
Singing songs of expectation,
Marching to the promised land;

2 And before us, through the darkness,
Gleameth clear the guiding light;
Brother clasps the hand of brother,
Stepping fearless through the night.

m 3 One the light of God's own presence,
O'er his ransomed people shed,
Banishing the gloom and terror,
Brightening the path we tread;

4 One the object of our journey,
One the faith which never tires,
One the earnest looking forward,
One the hope our God inspires;

5 One the strain that lips of thousands
Lift as from the heart of one;
One the conflict, one the peril,
One the march in God begun ;

mf 6 One the gladness of rejoicing
On the resurrection shore,
With one Father o'er us shining
In his love for evermore.

f1 HALLELUJAH! hallelujah!

Hearts to heaven and voices raise; Sing to God a hymn of gladness, Sing to God a hymn of praise; mp He, who on the cross a victim For the world's salvation bled, f Jesus Christ, the King of Glory, Now is risen from the dead.

mf 2 Christ is risen, Christ the first-fruits
Of the holy harvest-field,
Which will all its full abundance
At his second coming yield,
When the golden ears of harvest
Will their heads before him wave,
Ripened by his glorious sunshine,
From the furrows of the grave.

m 3 Christ is risen; we are risen;
Shed upon us heavenly grace,
Rain and dew, and gleams of glory
From the brightness of thy face,
That we, with our hearts in heaven,
Here on earth may fruitful be,
And by angel hands be gathered,
And be ever, Lord, with thee.

f4 Hallelujah! hallelujah!
Glory be to God on high;
Hallelujah! to the Saviour,
Who has gained the victory;
Hallelujah! to the Spirit,
Fount of love and sanctity;

f Hallelujah! hallelujah!
To the Triune Majesty.

P1 JESUS, I my cross have taken,
All to leave, and follow thee;
Destitute, despised, forsaken,
Thou from hence my all shalt be.
Perish every fond ambition,

mp

All I've sought, and hoped, and known; mf Yet how rich is my condition!

mf

God and heaven are still my own.

22 Let the world despise and leave me,
They have left my Saviour too;
Human hearts and looks deceive me,
Thou art not, like man, untrue;
And, while thou shalt smile upon me,
God of wisdom, love, and might,
Foes may hate and friends may shun me,
Show thy face, and all is bright!

.f

P 3 Man may trouble and distress me,
"Twill but drive me to thy breast;
Life with trials hard may press me,
Heaven will bring me sweeter rest.

m

O'tis not in grief to harm me
While thy love is left to me!
O'twere not in joy to charm me

Were that joy unmixed with thee!

mf 4 Take, my soul, thy full salvation ;
Rise o'er sin and fear and care;
Joy to find in every station
Something still to do or bear;
Think what Spirit dwells within thee,
What a Father's smile is thine,
What a Saviour died to win thee!

Child of heaven, shouldst thou repine?

ƒ5 Haste then on from grace to glory,

Armed by faith, and winged by prayer;
Heaven's eternal day's before thee,
God's own hand shall guide thee there.
Soon shall close thy earthly mission;
Swift shall pass thy pilgrim days;
Hope soon change to glad fruition,
Faith to sight, and prayer to praise.

m 1 JESUS calls us; o'er the tumult
Of our life's wild restless sea,
Day by day his sweet voice soundeth,
Saying, Christian, follow me;'

2 As, of old, apostles heard it

By the Galilæan lake,

Turned from home and toil and kindred,
Leaving all for his dear sake.
