THE CHAMPION PRINTING MACHINE.

YE CAXTON.

"DARLINGTON AND STOCKTON TIMES OFFICE,
Darlington, Durham : July 5, 1862.

"Mr. MYERS.-DEAR SIR,-We have now had your Caxton' Machine in regular use nearly two years, and it affords me very great pleasure to be able to add my testimony to the many others in its favour, as I consider it a very excellent machine.

"When we were about to enlarge the newspaper to eight pages, I made all the inquiries possible respecting the various machines in the market, and personally inspected a great many. After rejecting all the complicated and toy machines, and also those of the old-fashioned construction and exorbitant price, we were left with three kinds to choose from—viz. THE NAPIER, YE CAXTON," and BROWN'S KIRKCALDY.' After due consideration as to difference in price, ease in management, and working (i.e. driving power-we wanted a machine to turn by hand, large enough to print matter 52 x 36 inches), perfection in construction, adaptation to job-work as well as the newspaper, &c. &c., we decided to give yours the preference; and I am glad, for my own comfort and satisfaction, to be able to say that I do not regret the choice-in fact, if any other maker would now remove your machine, and place his in its place, free of all cost, we would not accept his offer. Your machine has some points of excellence not possessed by any other machine that I know of. I shall be at all times happy to show the machine, or answer any inquiries respecting it. I would wish also to express my high esteem for your prompt straightforward method of conducting business, and to thank you for your kind manner of accommodating local necessities and individual opinions. "Wishing you all the success you so fully deserve,

"I am, Sir, yours respectfully,

MR. R. MYERS, Sole Inventor, Maker, and Proprietor of the "Caxton Machine" (Gripper), unchallenged as the best Single Cylinder Machine for Book, News, Broadside, and General Jobbing Work, and of whose make about 400 Machines are satisfactorily at work in all parts of Great Britain, India, Australia, New Zealand, and the Channel Islands, begs to inform Printers, Merchants, and Shippers, that he does not exhibit his Machine at the International Exhibition, having failed to obtain space by too late an application. As the Commissioners will necessarily award a Medal or Commendation to some Machine exhibited there, Mr. Myers now gives notice that he will challenge, or accept the challenge, of the Machine so commended, to a trial of merits for £50, which the loser shall pay to the Printers' Pension Society. The Machines to be thus tested not to be less than Double Demy size, as that and Double Royal are the most useful sizes to a General Printing Office. A Committee of Printers, of known respectability, to be the Judges. Acceptance of Challenge to be advertised in Trade Publications.

Mr. Myers cautions the Trade that he has no other Establishment or Factory at any place but at
Southampton, where all communications must be addressed.
