21 But my covenant will I eftablish with fax, whom Sarah thall bear unto thee, at this fet time in the next year.

22 And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.

23 And Abraham took ithmael his fon, and all that were born in his houfe, and all that were bought with his money, every make among the men of Abraham's houfe, and circumcifed the tieth of their foreskin in the felt-fame day, as God had faid unto him.

44 And Abraham was ninety years old and nine when he was circumcifed in the neth of his foreskin.

25 And Ihmael his fon was thirteen years old when he was circumcifed in the fleth of his foreskin.

26 In the felf-fame day was Abraham cir. cumcifed, and libmael his fon.

27 And all the men of his houfe, born in the house, and bought with money of the tranger, were circumcifed with him.

CHAP. XVIII.

1 Abraham entertaineth three angels. 9 Sarab laughter. 17 Sodom's deftruction revealed to Abraham: 23 his interceffion.

AND the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he fat in the tent-door in the heat of the day.

2 And he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and, when he faw them, he ran to meet them from the tent-door, and bowed himff toward the ground,

3 And laid, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy night, pafs not away, I pray thee, from thy fervant.

4 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves

under the tree;

6 And Abraham haftened into the tent unto Sarah, and faid, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearch.

1 And Abrahani ran unto the herd, and fetched a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hatted to drefs it. 8 And he took butter and milk, and the calf which he had dreffed, and fet it before them; and he flood by them under the tree, and they did eat.

And they faid unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife! And he faid, Behold, in the

tent.

10 And he faid, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, 10, Sarah thy wite thall have a fon. And Sarah heard it in the tent-door, which was behind him.

11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, and We tricken in age: and it ceased to be with Sarah alter the manner of women.

12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, faying, After I am waxed old fhall I have pleafire, my lord heing old alfo?

13 had the LORD faid unto Abraham,

Abraham intercedeth for 19. Wherefore did Sarah laugh, faying, Shall 1of a furety bear a child, which am old?

14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah fhall have a fon.

15 Then Sarah denied, faying, I laughed not; for the was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didft laugh.

16 And the men rofe up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abrahara went with them, to bring them on the way. 17 And the LORD faid, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;

18 Seeing that Abraham thall furely be. come a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth thall be bleffed in him?

19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his houfe hold after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do juttice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abrahain that which he hath fpoken of him.

20 And the LORD faid, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their fin is very grievous;

21 I will go down now, and fee whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

22 And the nien turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham flood yet before the LORD.

23 And Abraham drew near, and faid, Wilt thou alfo destroy the righteous with the wicked?

24 Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou alfo destroy and not fpare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?

25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to lay the righteous with the wick. ed; and that the righteous thould be as the wicked, that be far from thee. Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

26 And the LORD faid, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will fpare all the place for their fakes.

27 And Abraham anfwered and faid, Be. hold now, I have taken upon me to fpeak unto the LORD, which am but duft and athes:

28 Peradventure there thall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou deftroy all the city for lack of five And he faid, If I find there forty and five, I will not de. ftroy it.

29 And he spake unto him yet again, and faid, Peradventure there fhall be forty found there. And he faid, I will not do it for forty's fake.

30 And he faid unto him, Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will fpeak; Peradventure there thall thirty be found there. And he faid, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.

31 And he faid, Behold now, I have taken upon me to fpeak unto the LORD: Per. adventure there shall be twenty found there. And he faid, I will not deftroy it for twen ty's fake.

32 And he faid, Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will fpeak yet but this once: Peradventure ten thall be found there. And he faid, I will not destroy it for ten's fake.

he had left communing with Abraham; and
Abraham returned unto his place.

CHAP. XIX.

1 Lot entertaineth two angels. 24 Sodom and
Gomorrah deftroyed. 26 Lor's wife punished.
AND there canie two angels to Sodom at
even; and Lot fat in the gate of So.
dom: and Lot feeing them, rofe up to meet
them; and he bowed hinifelf with his face
toward the ground;

2 And he faid, Behold now, my lords, turn
in, I pray you, into your fervant's houfe,
and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and
ye fhall rife up carly, and go on your ways.
And they faid, Nay; but we will abide in
the treet all night.

3 And he preffed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his houfe: and he made them a feaft, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.

4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compaffed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter.

5 And they called unto Lot, and faid unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.

6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and thut the door after him,

7 And faid, I pray you, brethren, do not fo wickedly.

& Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.

9 And they faid, Stand back. And they faid again, This one fellow came in to fojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee than with them. And they preffed fore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the houfe to them, and thut to the door.

And they fmote the men that were at the door of the houfe with blindness, both fmall and great: fo that they wearied them felves to find the door.

12 And the men faid unto Lot, Haft thou here any befides? fon-in-law, and thy fons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou haft in the city, bring them out of this place:

13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath fent us to destroy it.

14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his fons-in-law, which married his daughters, and faid, Up, get ye out of this place; for the LORD will deftroy this city. But he feemed as one thac mocked unto his fons-in

law.

15 And when the morning arofe, then the angels hattened Lot, saying, Arife, take thy wife, and thy two daughters which are here; left thou be confumed in the iniquity of the city.

16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto

17 And it came to pais, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he faid,. Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain: efcape to the mountain, left thou be confumed.

18 And Lot faid unto them, Oh! not fo, my Lord.

19 Behold now, thy fervant hath found grace in thy fight, and thou haft magnified thy mercy, which thou haft fhewed unto me in faving my life: and I cannot escape to the mountain, left some evil take me, and I die.

20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh! let me ef. cape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my foul fhall live.

21 And he faid unto him, See, i have 2c. cepted thee concerning this thing alfo, that I will not overthrow this city for the winch thou haft spoken.

22 Hafte thee, efcape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither: there. fore the name of the city was called Zoar.

23 The fun was rifen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.

24 Then the LORDrained upon Sodom, and upon Gomorrah, brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven.

25 And he overthrew thofe cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the ei. ties, and that which grew upon the ground.

26 But his wite looked back from be. hind him, and the becanie a pillar of falt.

27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before

the LORD.

28 And he looked toward Sodom and Go. morrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the fmoke of the country went up as the fmoke of a furnace.

29 And it came to pafs, when God de. ftroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and fent Lot out of the midft of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.

31 And the first-born faid unto the young. C., Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth.

32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will he with him, that we may preferve feed of our father.

33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firfl-born went in, and lay with her father; aud he perceived not when the lay down, nor when the arose.

34 And it came to pafs on the morrow, that the firft-born faid unto the younger, Behold, Bay yefternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night alfo; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preferve feed of cur father.

35 And they made their father drink wine that night alfo and the younger arofe, and lay with him; and he perceived not when the lay down, nor when the arofe.

36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

7 Now therefore, reftare the man bis wife; for he is a prophet, and he fhall pray for thee, and thou thatt live: and if thou reftore ber not, know thou that thou shalt furely die, thou, and all that are thine.

Therefore Abimelech rofe early in the morning, and called all his fervants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were fore afraid.

9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and faid unto him, What haft thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou haft brought on me, and on my kingdom, a great 6n: thou haft done deeds unto me that ought

not to be done.

10 And Abimelech faid unto Abraham, What faweft thou, that thou haft done this thing?

11 And Abraham faid, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will day me for my wife's fake.

12 And yet indeed fee is my fifter; the is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother: and the became

my wife.

ND visited Sarah as he had

2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a fon in his old age, at the fet time of which God had spoken to him.

3 And Abraham called the name of his fon that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Ifaac.

4 And Abraham circumcifed his fon Ifaac, heing eight days old, as God had command. ed him.

5 And Abraham was an hundred years old when his fon Ifaac was torn unto him.

6And Sarah faid, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. 7 And the faid, Who would have faid unto Abraham, that Sarah fhould have given chil dren fuck? for I have born bim a fon in his old age.

8 And the child grew, and was weaned : and Abraham made a great feaft the fame day

that Ifaac was weaned.

9¶ And Sarah faw the fon of Hagar the Egyptian, which the had born unto Abraham, mocking.

10 Wherefore the faid unto Abraham, Caft out this bondwoman and her fon: for the fon of this bondwoman thall not be heir with my fon, even with Ifaac.

11 And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's fight because of his fon.

12 And God faid unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy fight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath faid unto thee hearken unto her voice: for in Ifaac thall thy feed be called.

13 And alfo of the fon of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy feed.

14 And Abraham rofe up early in the morning, and took bread, and a 'bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, (putting is on her fhoulder,) and the child, and fent her away: and the departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-theba.

15 And the water was fpent in the bot tle, and the caft the child under one of the

fhrubs.

16 And he went, and fat her down over againft him a good way off, as it were a bowhot: for the faid, let me not fee the death of the child. And the fat over against him, and lifted up her voice, and wept.

17 And God heard the voice of the lad t and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and faid unto her, What aileth tree, Hagar? fear not: for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.

18 Arife, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand: for I will make him a great nation.

19 Ar & God opened her eyes, and the faw a well oiwater; and the went and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.

20 And God was with the lad; and he

21 And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

22 And it came to pafs at that time, that Abimelech, and Phichol the chief captain of his hoft, fpake unto Abraham, faying, God is with thee in all that thou doeft.

23 Now therefore, fwear unto me here by God, that thou wilt not deal falfely with me, nor with my fon, nor with my fon's fon: but according to the kindness that I have done unto thee thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou haft fojourned.

24 And Abraham faid, I will fwear. 25 And Abraham reproved Abimelech be. caufe of a well of water, which Abimelech's fervants had violently taken away.

26 And bimelech faid, I wot not who hath done this thing: neither didft thou tell me, neither yet heard I of it but to-day.

27 And Abraham took theep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech and both of them made a covenant.

28 And Abraham fet feven ewe-lambs of the flock by themselves.

29 And Abimelech faid unto Abraham, What mean thefe feven ewe-lambs which thou haft fet by themselves!

30 And he faid, For thefe feven ewe-lambs fhalt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witnefs usto me that I have digged this well.

31 Wherefore he called that place Beerfheba; because there they fware both of them. 32 Thus they made a covenant at Beertheba: then Abimelech rofe up, and Phichol the chief captain of his hoft, and they returned into the land of the Philistines,

33 And Abraham planted a grove in Beertheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlafting God.

34 And Abraham fojourned in the Philiftines land many days.

CHA P. XXII.

1 Abraham, offering Ifaac, 11 is flayed by an angel; 15 he is biefed again. 20 The generation of Nabor unto Rebekah.

Anacardi tops after these things. that God tempt Abraham, and faid unto him, Abraham. And he faid, Behold, bere I am.

2 And he faid, Take now thy fon, thine Only fon Ifaac, whom thou loveft, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt-offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

3 And Abraham rofe up early in the morning, and faddled his afs, and took two of his young men with him, and Ifaac his fon; and clave the wood for the burnt-offering, and rofe up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.

4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted

up his eyes, and faw the place er off.

5 And Abraham faid unto his young men, Abide you here with the afs; and I and the lad will go yonder and worthip, and come again to you.

6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt-offering, and laid it upon ffaac his fon; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.

7 And Ifaac fpake unto Abraham his fa

Sarah's age and death. ther, and faid, My father. And he said, Here am 1, my fon. And he faid, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt-offering?

8 And Abraham faid, My fon, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt-offering: fo they went both of them together.

9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an al tar there, and laid the wood in order; and bound Ifaac his fon, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

ro And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to tlay his fon.

11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and faid, Abraham, Abraham! And he said, Here am I.

12 And he faid, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou feareft God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy fon, thine only fon, from me.

13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt-offering in the ftead of his fon.

14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is faid to this day, In the mount of the LORD it fhall be seen.

15 And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the fecond time,

16 And faid, By myfelf have I fworn, faith the LORD; for because thou hast done this thing, and haft rot withheld thy fon, thine only fon;

17 That in bleffing I will bless thee, and in multiplying will multiply thy feed as the ftars of the heaven, and as the fand which is upon the fea-thore; and thy feed shall poffefs the gate of his enemies:

18 And in thy feed fhall all the nations of the earth be bieffed; because thou haft obey. ed my voice.

19 So Abraliam returned unto his young men: and they rofe up, and went together to Beersheba: and Abraham dwelt at Beer-theba.

20 And it came to pafs, after these things, that it was told Abraham, faying, Behold,

Milcah, the hath alfo born children unto thy brother Nahor;

21 Huz his firit-born, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram,

22 And Chefed, and Hazo, and Pildah, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel.

23 And Bethuel begat Rebekah: these eight Milcah did bear to Nahor, Abraham's brother. 24 And his concubine, whofe name was Reumah, the bare alfo Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahah, and Maachah.

CHAP. XXIII.
1 Sarah's age and death. 3 The purchase of
Machpelab, 19 where Sarah was buried.
AND Sarah was an hundred and feven and

twenty years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah.

2 And Sarah died at Kirjath-arba; the fame is Hebron, in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

3 And Abraham ftood up from before his dead, and fpake unto the fons of Heth, faying,

4 I am a ftranger and a fojourner with you: give me a poffeffion of a burying-place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my fight,

And the children of Heth answered
Abraham, faying unto him,

Hear us, my lord: Thou art a mighty prince among us in the choice of our fepul chres bury thy dead: none of us fhall with. hold from thee his fepulchre, but that thou mayet bury thy dead.

1 And Abraham stood up, and bowed himfelf to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.

8 And he communed with them, faying, If it be your mind that I thould bury my dead out of my fight, hear me, and entieat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,

9 That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he hall give it me, for a poffeifion of a burying-place among you.

10 And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth. And Ephron the Hittite anfwered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gates of his city, faying,

11 Nay, my lord, hear me: The field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the prefence of the fons of my people give 1 it thee: bury thy dead.

12 And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.

13 And he spake unto Fphron in the audience of the people of the land, faying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.

14 And Fphron anfwered Abraham, faying unto him,

15 My lord, hearken unto me: The land is worth four hundred thekels of filver; what is that betwixt me and thee! bury therefore thy dead.

16 And Abraham hearkened unto Fphron; and Abrahan weighed to Fphron the filver, which he had named in the audience of the fons of Heth, four hundred fhekels of filver, current money with the merchant.

17 And the field of Ephron, which was in Machgelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that wein all the borders round about, were mate fure

18 Unto Abraham for a poffeffion, in the prefence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.

19 And after this Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah, before Mamre: the fame is Hebron in the land of Canaan.

20 And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made fure unto Abraham, for a pof fetion of a burying-place, by the fons of Heth. CHA P. XXIV.

1 Abraham fendeth his jervant to get a wife forbison Ifaac: 48he obtaineth Rebekah. well fricken

4 But thou fhalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my fo Ifaac.

5 And the fervant faid unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land : maft I needs bring thy fon again unto the land from whence thou cameit?

6 And Abraham faid unto him, Beware thou, that thou bring not my fon thither again.

7The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father's houfe, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that fware unto me, faying, Unto thy feed will I give this land, he thall fend his angel before thee; and thou shalt take a wife unto my fon from thence.

8 And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my fon thither again.

9 And the fervant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his mafter, and sware to him concerning that matter.

Abraham in all things.

10 And the fervant took ten camels of the camels of his matter, and departed; (for all the goods of his matter were in his hands;) and he arofe, and went to Mefopotamia, un to the city of Nahor.

1 And Abraham faid unto his eldest fervant of his houfe, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh: 3 And I will make thee fwear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my fon of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:

II And he made his camels to kneel down without the city, by a well of water, at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water.

12 And he faid, O LORD God of my maf ter Abraham, I pray thee, fend me good fpeed this day, and thew kindness unto my mafter Abraham.

13 Behold, I ftand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:

14 And let it come to pafs, that the damfel to whom I thall fay, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and the thall fay, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink alfo: let the fame be the that thou haft ap. pointed for thy fervant Ifaac; and thereby thall I know that thou haft thewed kindnefs unto my mafter.

15And it came to pafs, before he had done fpeaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, fon of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.

16 And the damfel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and the went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.

17 And the fervant ran to meet her, and faid, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little wa ter of thy pitcher.

18 And the faid, Drink, my lord: and the hafted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink."

19 And when the had done giving him drink, the faid, I will draw water for thy camels aifo, until they have done drinking. emptied

into the trough, and ran agapuud her pitcher

to draw water, and drew for all his camels.

21 And the inan, wondering at her, held his peace, to wit whether the LORD had made his journey profperous or not.

22 And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden car-ring of half a thekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands, of ten bekels weight of gold,
