COLUMBIA GRAPHOPHONES

There is only one standard make of "talking machine." The word "Graphophone" stands for all that is modern and up-to-date in this line, and combines under the Patents of Edison, Bell, Tainter, MacDonald and others, all the good features of the old Phonograph, with many modern improvements not possessed by that very fine but rather. cat-of date instrument. So popular and successful has the Graphophone become, that it's name is more or less traded upon. We therefore warn our patrons against imitations or substitutes, under whatever name sold. We cannot afford to sell anything except the best; and the "best" in "talking machine" lines is made and guaranteed by the well-known American Graphophone Co. Graphophones are sold always under the manufacturers' guarautee that they are exactly as represented; and this guarantee alone, from the largest "talking machine" concern in the world, has a value not to be overlooked in buying an instrument in which perfect workmanship and finish, and absolute simplicity, are prime necessities.

A New Grand Graphophone

using both small and Grand cylinders. With this machine, you can only make "records" of your own voice and those of your friends (as you can do on any wax cylinder Graphophone, however inexpensive); but you can also, while having only one machine, costing only half as much as any previous instrument using the large or Grand cylinder, use the small "records" if desired, by simply removing the large mandrel. When you want to change back to the grand records with th-ir great volume and perfect tone, the change can be made in ten seconds, without tools or experience. Price with handsome hardwood cabinet, recorder, reproducer, and 14 inch aluminun horn, $25.00. OTHER STYLES $1.50 TO $150:00

Disc Graphophones

(using flat rubber disc records)

A great advantage of these Graphophones is the form in which the records are made. These flat discs, seven or ten inches in diameter, are shipped at very slight expense, and a large quantity may be stored in a very small space. BOTH the $20 and $40 machines use BOTH 7 inch and 10-inch records.

Climax Disc Records

are used on the Disc Graphophone and are the best made.

"Arthur I. Street has begun the publication in San Francisco of the "The Pandex of the Press," a monthly magazine which is to contain the best things from all newspapers. The work of selection and arrangement has been very well done, and the magazine, which contains over 100 pages, gives the reader an excellent summary of the latest events of the past month in all parts of the world. The editor shows his newspaper training in including many topics which have no strictly news value, but which are extremely readable, like gambling for high stakes at Monaco, and extravagance in dress. Mr. Street has an excellent special article on a "A Commercial Exodus," which brings out the wide opportunities across the Pacific The magazine is the best of its kind that we have seen."-San Francisco Chronicle.

Strictly up-to-date Including every great fact

or event of importance in the history of the world to the death of McKinley and the inauguration of Roosevelt. A POPULAR ENCYCLOPEDIA It employs no ultra-scientific language. No meaningless, technical terms. It is accurate. Interesting. Unique in method. Clear and compact. The best practical working encyclopedia ever published.

L. BRENT VAUGHAN, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, SAYS:

"The problem of constructing a reference work which may be said to be 'standard' has been difficult in the extreme. In the first place, scope is an essential; the selection of the leading facts in the various departments of knowledge is quite as important; while the manner in which the material is presented determines the value of such a work.

"The corps of editors and special writers have spent nearly five years in making this work the most complete condensed encyclopedia in the world. About fifteen thousand principal topics are discussed, and so carefully have they been worked over that there is not a useless nor an unnecessary word in the whole work. In other words, it is a book of solid facts so arranged as to be comprehensive and comprehensible.

Issued in two large quarto volumes. Including 986 Triple-Column Pages. Size, 7 8-4 x 10 inches. Weight, 8 1-2 pounds.
