6139 The library of the late Mr. Charles Letts, sold at Hodgson's. on June 3rd and four following days, comprised an extensive series of modern books, many of which were sold in "parcels," others being also of comparatively little importance, or which have recently occurred for sale at prices varying but little from those realised on the present occasion. Thus the "Edinburgh edition" of R. L. Stevenson's Collected Works, with the Appendix and Graham Balfour's Life, 1894-98, realised £56 (orig. buckram, t. e. g., uncut); the éd. de luxe of George Meredith's Works, 32 vol., 8vo., 1896-8, £17 (hf. buckram, some covers faded). The éd. de luxe of Kipling's Works, with "Departmental Ditties," together 27 vol., 8vo., 1897-1900-1898, £27 (art cloth); the "National Edition" of Dickens' Works, 40 vol., 8vo., 1906-8, £27 10s.
