PART III. REPORT OF THE STATE COMMITTEE OF PUBLIC HEALTH.

For the past year the general health conditions of the State have been good. No infectious or contagious diseases of severe character have gained extensive prevalence. A few local outbreaks of typhoid fever occurred, one of the most notable of which was at Huntsville. The cause of this outbreak was supposed to be infected drinking water, but this supposition was never verified by demonstration.

Smallpox remains with us, but during 1905 was less prevalent than it has been for any year since 1897. The extermination of this disease depends now, as it has done heretofore, upon proper legislation. If such legislation could be had the problem would be susceptible of easy solution. It is needless
