ORDO ROMANUS PRIMUS

-Church Times.

Edited, with translation, appendices, and notes, by E. G. CUTHBERT ATCHLEY, M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. With many illustrations.

7/6 net, "This handsomely printed book forms the sixth volume of 'The Library of Liturgiology and Ecclesiology for English Readers,' and is a valuable addition to this important series. It places before the reader, we believe for the first time, the original Latin text with an English translation of a venerable monument of the ceremonial and ritual of the early mediæval Church of Rome. . . We have read the work through twice with the greatest interest, and we have come to the conclusion that it is indispensable to a scientific and intelligent understanding of the contents and position of the Communion Service of the Roman Church in the present day."-Guardian.

HYPNOTISM: Its History, Practice, and Theory
By J. MILNE BRAMWELL, M.B., C.M. Demy 8vo, cloth. 18 - net.
The chief aim of this monograph is to draw the attention of medical men
to the therapeutic value of hypnotism. The author has devoted the last
twelve years to hypnotic practice and research, and his personal observation
of the practical work done in France, Germany, Sweden, Holland, Switzer-
land, and Belgium, should also make the volume a valuable addition to the
science of a subject which is exciting much interest at the present time. The
historical part of the book contains much important and little-known matter
regarding the work of Elliotson, Esdaile, and Braid. The methods of in-
ducing hypnosis are exhaustively dealt with, and full instructions are given
as to the management of the hypnotic state, together with details regarding
the causes which influence susceptibility to hypnosis. Many interesting
hypnotic experiments are recorded, as well as numerous cases illustrative of
the surgical and medical uses of hypnotism. Hypnotic theories are outlined
and discussed, and much attention is devoted to the question of the existence
of a subliminal, or secondary consciousness.

For original Latin Prose Composition. A series of Twelve Cards, each containing six Illustrations, with short sentences in Latin as keys to the story depicted. I/- net per set

The object of these Cards is to afford practice in composition which will prevent it from degenerating into a merely mechanical search for Latin equivalents of English words and phrases. Such exercises are meant to supplement and not to supersede translation. The pictures are suitable for more forms than one, since the story may be told in more or less simple language.

THE FIRST VOLUME OF THE NORLAND PLAIN TEXTS THE LIFE OF JULIUS AGRICOLA

By CORNELIUS TACITUS. Translated by Sir HENRY SAVILE in 1593, Provost of Eton and one of the Translators of the Authorised Version of the Bible. It also forms a valuable specimen of the writings of Sir Henry Savile, a man whose literary educational work has hardly received due recognition. F'scap. 8vo. 8d. net.
