THE MANIFOLD WISDOM OF GOD. Practical Lessons from the
Parables. By the Rev. M. R. Newbolt, Vicar of St. Michael
and All Angels, Brighton. Three Series. Cloth, 3s. net each.
Many devout people, partly because they are repelled by scholars' dis-
cussion of minutiæ, and partly from fear lest they may be confronted by a
modern scepticism to which they are unable to reply, shrink from any
detailed study of the New Testament and content themselves with the
great presentment of Christ put forth by the Church in her Creeds, and
with that immediate knowledge of Him which is gained through the
Blessed Sacrament. But to rest in this alone is to lose very much.
In the Parables there pass before our eyes a great procession of various
types of men and women each of them contributing some lesson of Eternal
truth, clothed, not in abstractions, but in living and breathing humanity.
