THE SINGING SWORD. A poem by G.
LAURENCE GROOM. Author of "THE SHIP OF
DESTINY." With an Introduction by RICHARD LE
GALLIENNE, and a portrait of the Author by CHARLES
BUCHEL. Crown 8vo. Boards. This edition is strictly
limited to five hundred copies.

The author is a young international writer whose work first became known to the public in the pages of such periodicals as The Anglo-French Review, The Bookman, The Sphere, New Witness, English Review, Les Nouvelles Litteraires, etc. Her first book, The Ship of Destiny, now almost out of print, caused her fine lyric gifts to be instantly recognised by discerning critics on both sides of the channel.

In this new book, Mrs. Groom gives us a long narrative poem descriptive of the experiences, temporal and spiritual, of two mediæval lovers. The story is told with medieval frankness, and yet with a sure mastery of modern idiom and rhythm. It contains lyrical passages of great beauty both of sound and thought which yet do not interrupt unduly the steady flow of the narrative. The book is a notable addition to the great tradition of English Narrative Verse which has continued almost unbroken since Chaucer.

Extract from the Introduction by Richard le Gallienne. "Above all, this is a great love poem, written with a fearless belief in the purity of great passion, and an unblushing sincerity of utterance, to compare with which one must go back to Shakespeare's Venus and Adonis and Swinburne's Tristram of Lyonesse."
