REES, G. LIBRARIES FOR CHILDREN: A History and a
Bibliography. 1924

...

...

...

This is the most comprehensive history of children's libraries yet published. Not only is a large number of British juvenile departments described in detail, but a history of the movement and the methods employed in America, France, Belgium, Holland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy is included.

In all cases first-hand information is given,

this having been procured direct from each of the countries named. It is therefore valuable from a historical standpoint, and is also full of interest both to the librarian and to the educationist.

This is a supplement to Walter's Abbreviations and Technical
Terms, in that it omits all terms given in that book. But this
volume covers a much broader field-including terms used by
bibliographers, booksellers, publishers, book manufacturers,
printers, paper-makers, engravers, binders--in English, Danish,
Dutch, French, German, Italian, Latin, Spanish, Swedish.
The English chapter gives definitions of terms and the synonym
in each of the other eight languages; the chapters under each
language enable one instantly to get the English meaning of
any foreign term.

This work gives in a concise and handy form a general com-
prehensive survey of the development of printing in Europe,
and its extension to America, Asia and Australasia, from its
invention up to comparatively recent times. To achieve this
purpose the foremost experts on the subject have been invited
to collaborate in producing a series of chapters to cover the
whole ground. Each writer is well known in his particular field,
and, where necessary, translations have been made under the
author's own supervision.

"A good, comprehensive history of the printing art from the
days of Pi Sheng and his invention of movable type 'way back
in 1041 to the days of the latest futurist stunts by German
typographers and the more sober attempts at better printing
by our own contemporaries.
The names of the con-
tributors are guarantee enough to establish an authoritative
volume in its field. They represent the best there is to be found
among the students of printing development and progress in
