N. B. This list is more correct than the list published in the census, p. xix, which omits the population of the Islands in the British Seas, * 103,710. § A duplicate return for Lostwithiel, 474, should be deducted from the diocese of Exeter."

Many particulars respecting the Archdeaconry, and accurate lists of all the parishes within it, with the population, &c. &c. of each, will be found at p. 121, 181, and 213, of this Register. The Cornwall Clergy Fund Report, published on June 2, contains the latest authentic list of the 206 parishes, arranged under the Eight Deaneries, with the distances from the Post Towns, and the names of all the Clergy whether resident, beneficed, or officiating. The total number is 279. In the exact order observed in that Report, at the request and with the assistance of the Archdeacon and Clergy, a concise Ecclesiastical history of each parish, with lists of incumbents, &c. and statistical details, will be forthwith prepared for publication. The short summary in the preceding letter is more fully explained in the following table.

The Parliamentary Papers referred to in the Corporation Report, viz. No. 83 of 1830, Nos. 69 and 202 of 1831, and No. 189 of 1833, may contain further data, but we have had no opportunity of examining them, as there is not in Cornwall any Depository, which there ought to be in every County, for all the Parliamentary Proceedings. The blunders made in the local arrangements for Cornwall, under the Reform Act, are shewn at p. 196. Similar errors may occur under the Corporation Bill now before Parliament, unless timely attention is paid to the subject. Nine only of our 19 Corporate Towns are included in the Bill, by which 24 Councillors are given to Truro; 21 to Bodmin, Falmouth, Penryn, St. Ives, and Penzance; 18 to Liskeard and Helston; and 15 to Launceston. The limits of Truro and Penzance are to be the Parliamentary boundaries. This must be an error, as Penzance is not a Parliamentary Borough. The limits of the remaining seven are to be fixed by the Privy Council. To Liskeard, Truro, St. Ives, Penzance, and Falmouth, only, are Commissions of the Peace assigned. It does not appear on what principle these arrangements have been made; we cannot discover it from the Bill, the debates in Parliament, or the Statistics of the respective Towns. The effect of the measure throughout Cornwall, with regard to County Rates, County Magistrates, Police Regulations, the repair of Churches maintained by Corporations, &c. &c. should be carefully examined, and impartially considered. Important changes have been made in a few years, and more especially within this County. Before the disfranchisement of Grampound, in 1824, Cornwall returned 44 Members, two more than were elected for the the whole of Scotland. She now sends only 14. The Eastern bank of the Tamar, and Cornwall, returned at that period 52 Members, more than a thirteenth part of 658, the total number elected for Great Britain and Ireland. Out of 285 places in England and Wales, in which inquiry has been instituted by the Commissioners, 246 are considered by them to be Municipal Corporations. No earlier official list can be found. Nineteen of our Towns are included in their Report. It is proposed to reform, by the present Bill, nine, viz. Launceston, Liskeard, Bodmin, Truro, Penryn, Falmouth, Helston, St. Ives, and Penzance. The other ten, viz. Saltash, Bossiney, Camelford, East Looe, West Looe, Lostwithiel, Fowey, Grampound, Tregony, and Marazion, will probably be disfranchised. It is of consequence to the whole County, that the alterations made should be founded on correct data, and any information by which the preceding table may be rendered more accurate, if communicated to the Printers, will be inserted.
