Watertown and Rome Railroad.-Office in Watertown, N. Y. Incorporated in 1845, with a capital of $1,500,000. Length, 97 miles. Cost of construction, etc., $2,096,713. This road extends from Rome, Oneida County, where it forms a junction with the New York Central Railroad, and runs through Oswego and Jefferson counties to Cape Vincent, situated on the St. Lawrence River, opposite to Kingston, Can. Pierrepont Manor it connects with the Sacket's Harbor and Ellisburgh Railroad. It forms an important link in the chain of railroads extending from the city of New York to the northwestern part of the State and the Canadas, running through Watertown and several other flourishing towns and villages.

CLEARING HOUSE ASSOCIATION.

Office, Bank of New York Building, corner Wall & William streets. Established October 11, 1853, for the purpose of facilitating exchanges and settlements between the City Banks. Exchanges are made daily at 10 o'clock A. M., and balances paid at 13 P. M., in specie. Expenses divided pro-ratio, on the capital, between the forty-six associated Banks. Annual meeting, first Tuesday in October. Specie Depository, Bank of America, 46 Wall Street.

RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE BANKS.

The Banks in the city of New York are open every day in the year, from 10 o'clock A. M. to 3 P. M., except Sundays, Christmas Day, NewYear's Day, the Fourth of July, and general holidays appointed by legal authority.

Bills or Notes offered for discount must be inclosed in a letter directed to the cashier the day before discount day, advising the name of the person upon whose account it is offered, etc.

Bills and Notes lodged for collection are collected free of charge to the holders, except when at a distance. When protested, the person lodging

the same pays the charge of protest.

The rate of Discount in the Chartered Banks is 6 per cent. per annum (calculating 360 days to the year), except when notes have over 60 days to run; when beyond that time, the banks have the privilege of charging 7 per cent. The Free Banks are privileged to charge 7 per cent, on all discounts. Three days' grace are allowed on notes, and the discount taken for the same.

Deposits and Notes for collection must be entered in the dealer's book at the time when deposited.
