POSTAGE DIRECTORY.

CIRCULATION OF LETTERS IN SCOTLAND.

Letters from LONDON, the WESTERN, MIDLAND, and SOUTHERN COUNTIES of ENGLAND, circulate by the Caledonian Railway, except those for the county of BERWICK and part of the counties of Roxburgh and Haddington, which are forwarded by the York, Newcastle, Berwick, and North British Railways. The LONDON DAY MAIL leaves the Euston Square Station, by the London and North-western Railway, at 9.15 a.m., arriving at Carlisle at 6.40 p.m., and then proceeds by the Caledonian Railway to the Carstairs Junction, arriving at 9.20 p.m. Here the Mail for Edinburgh branches off, and arrives at the General Post-Office at 1.15 a.m. The Glasgow Mail branches off at Coatbridge Junction, and arrives at Glasgow Post-Office 10.45 p.m. The Mail for the NORTH continues on, by the Greenhill Junction, to the Scottish Central Railway, arriving at Perth at 12.30 a.m.; from thence by Perth, Dundee, Arbroath, and Aberdeen Railways, arriving at the Post-Office, Aberdeen, 4.53 a.m.

The LONDON NIGHT MAIL leaves Euston Square at 9 p.m., arrives at Carlisle at 5.47 a.m., at Carstairs Junction 7.47 a.m., at General Post-Uffice, Edinburgh, 9 a.m., at Glasgow 9 a.m., and at Perth 10.40 a.m. From thence the ABERDEEN Mail proceeds by the Scottish Midland and Aberdeen Railways, arriving at Aberdeen 2.33 p.m.

The Mail for INVERNESS, and places beyond, is despatched from Aberdeen on the arrival of the London Night Mail, 2.33 p.m. arriving at Inverness at 10.59 p.m., and THURSO at 5.28 the next afternoon.

Letters for ABERDEEN, INVERNESS, &c., from EDINBURGH and GLASGOW, are despatched from these offices at 6 a.m., to meet the London Night Mail, and proceed along with it from Perth as above. Letters for ABERDEEN, &c., as far as Inverness but not beyond, are also sent along with the London Day Mail from Edinburgh and Glasgow at 8 p.m., to accompany the Down Mail to Perth.

Letters from BERWICK and the EASTERN COUNTIES of ENGLAND as far as York, are forwarded by the North British Railway to Edinburgh, arriving at the General Post-Office, Edinburgh, at 4.40 a.m. and 11.21 a.m.; and the returns are despatched at 1.48 p.m. and 5.40 p.m.

Letters for the COUNTY of FIFE circulate through Edinburgh, and are despatched from the General Post-Office at 6.30 a.m., 2.45 p.m., by the Edinburgh, Dundee, and Perth Railway, and arrive in Edinburgh at 9.30 a.m. and 6.15 p.m.

Letters for DUBLIN and the SOUTH of IRELAND are forwarded and received by both London Mails through Liverpool, and are also sent along with the Mails for BELFAST and the NORTH of IRELAND via Greenock, the latter being despatched from Edinburgh at 3.50 p.m., and Glasgow at 6 p.m., the steamer sailing from Greenock at 8 p.m. This Mail arrives in Glasgow at 6.30 a.m., and Edinburgh

at 9.30 a.m.

Letters from and beyond INVERNESS circulate south by London Night Mail. Those for Edinburgh and Glasgow branch off at the Greenhill Junction, and arrive at these offices at 6 p.m., along with other letters from Aberdeen, &c.

The LONDON DAY MAIL leaves Aberdeen at 2.18 p.m., Perth at 6.18 p.m., and Edinburgh anc Glasgow at 8 p.m., arriving in London at 11.28 a.m. The letters from Perth, Aberdeen, &c., for Edinburgh are transferred to Down Mail at Carstairs, and arrive at 1.15 a.m.; and those for Glasgow at Motherwell, arriving at 10.45 p.m.

The following Table of the Routes of the Mails will greatly facilitate the tracing the progress of any letter.
