[Colossians iii. 9.) 12. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds.

(Ephesians iv. 25.] Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor; for we are members one of another.

[Zechariah viii. 16.] These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbor, execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates. And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbor ; and love no false oath; for all these are things that I hate, saith the Lord.

(Colossians, ii. 20.) 7. Children, obey your parents in all things; for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

[Matthew xix. 13.) Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me; for of such is the kingdom of heaven. And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.

[Matthew xviii. 1.] 8. At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, and said, Verily, I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever, therefore, shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name,

receiveth me.

But, whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a mill-stone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face

my Father which is in heaven.

LESSON LV.

DUTIES OF MASTERS AND SERVANTS.

[Ephesians vi. 5.] 1. SERVANTS, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; not with eye-service, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; with good-will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men ; knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. And, ye masters, do the same things

1

unto them, forbearing threatening; knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with Him.

['Titus ii. 9.] 2. Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again ; not purloining, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things. For the grace of God, that bringeth salvation, hath appeared to all men, teaching us, that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world.

[1 Peter ii. 18.] 3. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. For this is thankworthy, if a man, for conscience toward God, endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well

, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is ac'ceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called ; because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that we should follow his steps, who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth; who, when he was reviled, reviled not again ; when he suffered, he threatened not, but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously.

[Colossians iv. 1.] 4. Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal, knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.

[Deuteronomy xxiv. 14.] Thou shalt not oppress a hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land, within thy gates. At his day, thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it, for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it ; lest he cry against thee unto the Lord, and it be sin unto thee.

[Job xxxi. 13.)
If I did despise the cause of my man-servant or of my maid-servant,

When they contended with me,
What then shall I do when God riseth up ?
And when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?
Did not he that made me make him also ?
And did not one fashion us both ?

[1 Corinthians vi. 9.] 3. Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived ; neither thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

[Galatians v. 19.) Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these – Hatred, variance, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance ; against such there is no law.
