During the eleven months of Civil Government—from May 1, 1900, to March 31, 1901,-the total expenditures of the Island aggregated one million, seven hundred fifty thousand, eighty-one and 44-100 (1,750,081.44) dollars. The funds actually received by the Treasurer in this period were one million, eight hundred thirty-one thousand, nine hundred eight and 49-100 (1,831,908.49) dollars, and the excess of receipts over expenditures was eightyone thousand, eight hundred twenty-seven and 05-100 (81,827.05) dollars. Of the total receipts, the sum of two hundred forty-one thousand, twenty seven and 62-100 (241,027.62) dollars is held as trust funds, thus making the excess of expenditures over receipts available for current expenditures for the eleven months one hundred fiftynine thousand, two hundred and 57-100 (159,200.57) dollars. The gross amount of revenue collected inthe United States upon exports from Porto Rico for May 1, 1900, to March 31, 1901, has been three hundred forty-seven thousand, eight hundred sixty-eight (347,868) dollars. Deducting from this the excess of insular expenditures over the actual receipts of the insular treasury other than trust funds during the same period, one hundred fifty-nine thousand, two hundred and 57-100 (159,200.57) dollars, it will be seen that the expenditures of the Island during the first eleven months of Civil Government have been one hundred eighty-eight thousand, six hundred sixtyseven and 43-100 (188,667.43) dollars,-less than the revenues actually made available.
